Hi guys,

Need some advice on buying and fitting a body lift!

Been looking around for the last few weeks and cant seem to decide what to do. I need the extra clearance to stop my scrubbing a bit :/
Its for a SWB 95 Vitara with the G16b engine >.>
and Ive got a 2" lift fitted from ARB already.
Not sure where to get my BL kit from, and to do a 2inch or a 3inch BL.
Ive tried searching but i cant seem find the answers to my questions.

Im looking at either buying the 3inch BL from Calmini through 4wd.com
3" Calmini Lift
Or
i can get the kit from Just_Cruizin through the forums?

I was looking at the calmini kit but 3inch is a big body lift and i dont want to have to mess around with my brake lines or fabricating/cutting things up.
Also like it cos it includes lots of extras like Front diff drop brackets(atm my CVS are on a pretty big angle :/) and the Transfer Lever Extension.
Will the Calmini BL work on my car even tho i dont have the Calmini suspension set up?
also, i know body lifts are illegal here in WA..
what do you guys advise?

Anything over 50mm is illegal anywhere in Australia anyway! That might help you make your descision easier?

2 inch should give you heaps more clearance...

2 inch is alot of lift.. doesnt sound like much till you put it in and stand back and admire your handy work.. then it hits you

I spose either way its still illegal with my big tyres!
Im doing it For more clearance over my wheels.. I scrub a fair bit with a few peeps in my car and its ripping my screws out thats holding my flares on T.T
does JZ's kit include everything i need?

The CALMINI body lift's won't pass any decent inspection as it's not solid blocks.

There's also no diff drop brackets in the body lift kit. That's for the suspension CALMINI offers.

i was so happy i bought 2 sets :lol:
lucky i didnt stack em up and go 4".2" will be plenty for your vitara mate.and has a chance of being legal but3" is just too much.

the calmini kit is cobbled together by some redneck using bits from the offcut bin, i ran one for a while then i saw the light & got one of just cruisin' body lift.

Back Yard Engineering - started as a shit stir.

As far as what I make, not too much at the moment but I'm moving to a bigger place with a decent shed so hopefully things will develop from there.

Was thinking of doing a body lift but have been told I can only do a 3" lift on a '97 V6 Vit because of the different chassis? Is this correct??? :?

lock in "B" Eddie, that is incorrect. :lol:

i've ran the calmini 3" body lift for a while before i discovered the interweb back in 2006 as it was free with my calmini kit, it came out & was replaced with a just cruizin 2" body lift.

the strut brace on the SV's causes a slight drama, ninjamoses & i trimmed a bit of the sheet metal from the inner guard to refit the brace, the other options are to space the brace up off the strut tops or to cut & shut the brace itself.

Got a nagging question and this thread is pretty damn worthy... With a 2" body lift, how easy is it to get my bullbar and rear bumper to match up again? After just whacking in the blocks, what exactly needs to be done to get it driving again?

My tyres rub at 245/80 with no tread and i'm thinking i'll need a BL to fit a 245/75 MT.

The other option is to fit a 1" body lift and the strut brace should still work without mods.

Works on V6 GV's.

Thanks for the further info, I had a look at ninjamoses build up and see what you mean about the strut brace. I will have to have a serious look at what is going on here in NSW with the restrictions etc and if I could find an engineer that would pass a body lift these days :( :? 8O

The rear bumper is bolted to the body so that moves up with it. The front bumper/bullbar will need new mounts fabricated to shift it up.

Pretty sure that is ok in NSW but talk to an engineer
