Post subject:  diesel Rocky engine in vitara?

just wondering if anyone has tried (or heard of) fitting the 2.8 TD engine from the rocky into a sierra or vitara? what i have read they are similar weights and with the engine being loosly based on the hilux 2.8 would be bullet proof with heaps of torque.

But probably would be a nightmare to bolt up to a G series gearbox....

ok just was looking at the diesel option, the gearbox and tranfer case from the rocky seems to be same dimensions so i would use the whole lot. any suzuki diesels that will fit and can be sourced?

Is that 5k to buy engine, or 5k total conversion cost?

My girlfriend drives a rocky, 2.8 intercooled turbo and it goes bloody well. It also has a diesel gas setup which helps some tho. It is a pretty big engine tho, and would be pretty heavy. Having said that it would propel a vitara pretty well I would imagine. I just wouldn't want the job of making it fit and then sussing out springs to keep it's nose up!

toyota owned, not built. the rocky 2.8 i would have to say is worse than the tojo 2.8, and heavt to boot! and its a completely different motor to the toyota 2.8.

yes the rocky was based on the old 2.4l toyo engine. just what i have read is that the rocky engine is a very good engine, yes it is a bit heavy but was looking at overall benefits compared to other easily sourced diesels. the rocky engine responds very well to upgraded turbo set up and was looking at this side of things
