Post subject:  GV front camber out, thinking about trimming the strut eye
so after some rubbing issues up front of the SWB GV running 30mm raised coils and a 15mm spacer and 30s i decided to give the front a little boost, i stacked another 15mm spacer on top and it has made a awesome difference no scrubbing, buuuuuut my camber is out

i already running camber bolts but i still have what i think is a bit of toe in (bottom of the wheels pointing in) so im toying with the idea of using a die grinder, cutting away the bottom strut hole a little so i can get a touch more play.

has anyone done this? and have any tips?

So the wheels are like this? \----/ That is camber. Camber is top to bottom.

If the rear of the wheel (towards the firewall) is pointing in or out, that is Toe.

are you running camber bolts top & bottom?

you can elongate the hole which is a bit dodgy IMO, the other option is the OME struts have camber correction built in

i am only running camber bolts in the top, and im not ready to buy me a set of OME struts, im currently running dobinson, elongating the hole atm is the cheapest option

the camber bolts have quite a bit of adjustment in them. Have you tried to get a wheel alignment yet? They may be able to adjust them further than what they're already set at.

how much is it out by?

maybe a 2nd set of camber bolts might help... if you grind the struts whats stopping them from moooving while 4wding?

How is camber built in on the ome. I have seen them fitted first hand for 40mm lift and boy did it need camber bolts

on another issue, 1 spacer on top of another! Did you glue them together?

yes they are glued together

i run them in mine with a 3" lift & the camber is fine. :roll:

from what i can work out the holes are in a different spot compared to standard.

glued spacers sound almost as bad as slotted bolt holes.... 8O

Atari if you are running a calmini kit the lower control arms correct for camber as they are longer.

If you were to slot the holes on the struts you could tack weld a thick washer over the hole to prevent the bolt sliding in the slotted hole which is bad.

Alternatively a second set of camber bolts will allow further adjustment to camber without modifying the strut.

But if you are running the longer dobinson struts and have now crammed in 90mm of lift with the second set of coil spacers you will be loosing a lot of down travel and topping out the struts all over the place not to mention the alignment issues.

I would stay at 60mm of lift which is a good amount of lift for these trucks and with 30's you should have a decent amount of diff clearance and avoid the problems associated with attempting to lift these IFS trucks way beyond there working parameters.

If you desire more tire clearance you could consider a body lift which is a good way to "tune" tire clearance especially on a GV due to the constraints of the front suspension.
