ok guys i got a manual and understand a bit now, but i cant start to rebuild and tune the mixture, cold idle, warm idle as my choke is not in working order. the butterfly flap is consantly vertical at cold and warm as its not under tension, so it just moves flapping freely. how do i tension this to get it springy again? i replaced the spring but still no good. lastly does nayone knoe what the stock setting for the mixture and cold idle screw should be, ie; screw all the way in then X amount of turns out. i have read that the mixture screw is 1.5 turns out cheers and i did search this but came up short tonights the last attempts then its off to a pro and i will get my jew wallet out |

I hate the tiny gutless suzi carb, and so don't buggerize around with them, but, as a general rule, wind in the needle till it starts to run ruff, wind out (counting the turns) till it starts to run ruff, then set it half way twix the two. This will then need a bit of fine tuning, if you care to be perfect, but its an average position. The 1.5 turns or whatever bit is fine for a brand new or recently refurbished carby, but one that is aging, not at all. Fine starting point, but needs lots of fine tuning. |

x2. You really need a good understanding of what you are playing with and a gas analyser to get a proper result when tuning a carb. You can have a fiddle yourself but it'll never be right |

As been said it takes alot to get it spot on. Especially coz your selling it you want it too be running right for the buyer, as chances are it will be one of the boys off here who buys it. |

yep a pro is the way to go, I had a new weber just done, had the have the base rehoned as it wasnt completly flush with base making a vac leak, the secondry throttle flat wasnt closing properly/bent, and the primary throttle flap wasnt centerd. it all looked good to me, but a pro knows what to look for. other things they can pick up is jetting, and in my case vacuum advance diaphragm holes. i got all my work done by allan at willeton carby exchange and cost just under 700 but that was including work on engine too. if u want an axchange carby from him for the stock aissin its $320 too as |

yea there is that, I have, like may here, many thousands of dollars worth of tools, a lot are very specific use items, but thats because I enjoy doing, an tuning, my toys. Its a bit of an expensive game, but, remember, he who dies with the most tools, wins. |

hahaha tools smools i adjust my carb with a welding electrode flattend one end with a hammer .....they twist too any postion ya want |

Ok so I got home from work and got started on the zook. I put together all the advice in my 76 carby related threads and with a manual in hand went to task. I have conceeded defeat with the auto choke tension an settings as I ant get my head around but no biggie. I followed the manual and got it to idle at 880 and set the mixture at the engines peak, an repeated the process andthen dropped idle by 50rpm. Wallah now idles at 850 at warm idle and holds idle found a vacuum hose loose and did the switch on the leads an it now idles fine stupidly I did both changes at once and not sure which was causing it to not hold idle. Took her for a drive to check for backfiring but got none and I was trying to, so that's a good sign. So end result the carby wins on the auto choke front but in the end she is running smooth, but noticed idle up is fudged as didn't engage with the lights on I will still take it to get tune professionally and possibily rebuilt cheers for everyone help |

I got pissed of with Sierra carbi's, tried the Holley that was crap and upgraded to a Vitara, I miss the sierra and recently found a thread about using the carbi of a CB engined charade on sierra 1.3's, upside manual choke, more power, better economy and bolt on, almost enough to have me thinking about buying a Sierra. |
