I have removed the circlips on my red suzis front axles, basicly so it's easier/faster to remove CVs when/if broken. I have run it like that for about 5? months, and that may be only a 100ks? of driving in that time. It seems to not affect it as far as i can tell. Although the only issue i have with the front end is massive steering wobbles at speed but i contribute that to it being completely stuffed, and i don't do speed that often so it doesn't really matter.

So, would removing the circlips contribute to the steering wobbles at speed?

but my main question was....
....would having no circlips cause any excess wear and tear on anything or damage ya reckon?

which clips are you talking about? the ones on the freewheeling hubs or the ones on the inner axle that hold the CV to it?

I think the big problem is the axle can go to far into the centre and then have not as much spline out the other end which can make cv's easier to blow from the inside out (if talking the inner circlip)

if talking the freewheeling hub one then you could get a situation where the CV slides further into the bell and could jam when tuning I guess, some tack welds on the splines to stop them sliding in too far might fix that.

though thsoe c-clips are piss easy to remove with the right tools, I have some fancy snap on pliers designed to do it and never have a drama, I am pretty sure knipex make some as well, I will check tomorrow

yeah the freewheeling hub circlips. I think i just didn't have any at the time and thought it might be ok because i have heard people mention it before, but never heard of anyone that had done it , or any experiences.

if you take the circlip off the axle, and try to move the axle in and out of the diff housing, it only moves a few MM, maybe 4 or 5 MM.

I was just thinking about this as i took the diff center out of the white suzi today, (feel like loctiting some bolts in?)
Reasonably easy to remove the circlips, but does add extra time to the job.

with the pliers I have you slip it into the end locate the ends of the clips in the divets in the jaws and squeeze and off they come dead straight every time, no mucking around at all, worth all $120

plus old clips suck, remind me to bring measure some when I am at Bruces and I'll see if I can get some

old clips? you mean the ones with the little holes in the ends?

i seemed to have more success with the old ones. the newer ones with the pointy ends can be a pain, but i think i'm getting the hang of them.

but you know what it's like when there's millions of sponsorship dollars riding on every minute you're in the pits. I can't afford to be mucking around with circlips for 5 minutes.

nah they are circlips, sierras have C clips, no holes

maybe you need a better team mechanic

my old sierras had the circlips with the little holes in the ends, ya reckon that was a after market thing?

i have a set of sidcrome ones that sound the same as royces and cost $50 make the job really really easy
