Hey guys Driving home tonight i had a knock in the rear that was really intermittent, and i couldnt replicate it by braking/accelerating/turning etc... Anyway - got home and stuck my head under and theres a fair bit of diff oil thats run out from i assume the rear hub (cant have come from anywhere else). Possible diagnosis??? Im worried about the clunking part!!!! Hoping a wheel bearing is gone and the wheel is clunking rather than something in the diff! |

axle seal for sure. jus pull the axle out and see if the bearing has collapsed and go from there. |

yeh it will be the bearings and the seal the car does that funny thing, and the inside of the wheel will have oil on it |

not bad if it is... those rear wheel bearings and seals are over 9 years old. |

rear axle seals? I have a bit of a leak on the inside of my rear wheels too which I'm presuming is diff oil. |

Yeah def your bearings and seals. The same thing happened to me. I'm guessing once the bearing goes, the axle is able to move around a bit more and screws the seal as well |

must be driving style.... lol or maybe the fact i dont clean it that well and the dirt holds it together. front bearings lasted about 3 years last time i replaced them. (one collapsed completely and destroyed a brake pad). Time will tell how long the new rears last =) |

wowo what a difference!! new bearings & seals and new shoes & cylinders... stops on a dime and no my clunking... interestingly what i thought was tyre noise has reduced too... so perhaps the bearings were infact screaming in pain the last few weeks and i just assumed my tyres were howling a bit more =P haha |
