i would say that is enough of a sketch to show him what you want just make sure you go show him where you want the pipes to go/land etc. No point drawing anything better because they wont really be able to use it. |

just use that. Unless you or your engineer have CAD you won't be able to view the file anyway.. |

alot of good cad software will allow you to save the model as a 3D pdf.....so you can spin it 'round etc. |

what do you need an engineer for? they don't do anything, you need someone that can make a cage. |

The bar work looks great for the kids, but what do you plan to bolt your monkey bars to? I would be sceptical about the point of a cage bolted to the sierra body panels. Id suggest to mount the bars to the chassis rails, do it properly or dont bother. I can draw it, but dont want to. By the way, your top view is incorrect compared to the isometric drawing. The front support bars going vertically down in the iso, and in the top view its going somewhere else completely. Be prepared for questions from the engineer though. He may tell you to minimalise your design. |

I didn't no how the to do the top view so I did any thing yes the fronts bars are ment to go straight down I was thinking of foot plates inside the cab and under the cab, is that a bad idea? Its not a engineer I don't think im geting the cage done from a place were they do speedway car cages so surely they know what the best way to go about it. |

I thought there was no way to engineer a 6 point cage now? The tabs/floorplates will be fine, They will save you, but not the car. Also lowspeed crashes only. A stock wt lwb has a rollbar in the rear just infront of the backdoor, It is mounted through the body only and mounts ontop of the corners also. For the top, i would get rid of the straight bar, but keep the X. I would do an X in the back also. not just 1 /. |

Isn't it a massive no no to mount a internal cage direct to chassis unless the chassis is incorperated into the floorpan of your car like a normal sedan. I was told its like this because if the body dislogding from the chassis in a rollover/accident because it could crush you between the moving body and the cage. weaves |

yeah just show them some basic drawings or find some photos on the net of some peoples cages in sierras. Bolting it all to the body is what everyone does. |

Im pritty sure u can get them engineered but you have to have padding were ever your head is I rather save myself then the car any day Ok thanks ill think about ur idea, it might change later on. Its just a rough idea atm |

I'm an AutoCAD pro, however I think the fabricator making the cage would be better off taking his measurements from your car as he goes rather than a set of drawings. When bending tube unless your bends are spot on and your welds are made perfectly in the right places (which could probably only be done with a computerised bender and a pre-made jig) there will be some small amount of error and any precise drawings would be a waste. You are probably better off drawing detailed sketches by hand over pictures of your car. I don't see why an engineer couldn't give you the go or no-go ahead from well thought sketches. |

It just has to be done properly. And cage mounted seats are a good option with a chassis mounted internal aswell. |

Not with the cross brace and harness bar. They would most certainly be within the rear passengers head collision zone. Lose the bracing or lose the seat. (lose the seat |

And if you are driving places where you think you could benifit from a cage, then you shouldn't compromise on its design, and you shouldn't have passengers in the back. JMO Peter |

If you convinced the engineer to let you move the rear bench seat back so it touched the tailgate, you may be able to get enough room to keep him happy. But this will be yet more expense, and 2 more mod plates ( seat mod and seat restraint mod) Tell your mates to rent mopeds |
