i had a whinge coming from what i thought was the rear diff, i changed diffs and the whinge is still there.

What could be causing this noise? it only really starts when i hit about 80kms and stop s when i back off.

what did the rear bearings look like when you removed the axles?

ball bearings often make a whine when they are on there way out.

The noise may not be the diff. Have you had the car on a hoist (or stands) to hear the noise from the source. Quite often noises from the transfer/gearbox can sound like they're coming from the back.

When mine did that it turned out to be the hard casing on the pinion shaft.

8O Um, yes... 8O

That mud hole you ploughed through will eat out seal's in EVERYTHING, checking oil level's should be part of your wash down..
