So, my water pump is leaking on my 95 LWB Vitara. A mechanic has told me it's not just the seal, but the water pump needs replacing.

Any idea how much this would cost, and is it an easy job to replace?

Replace it and the Timing Belt at the same time if it due to be done or even close

mate, I picked up a timing belt kit for my 94 Vit,(with tensioner and seals), for $68 from Peps, and I've seen water pumps on the net for about $50.

Local parts dealer wants $80 for the water pump and $120-$140 for the timing belt kit. As per usual, much cheaper on eBay, but not sure of the quality. Reckon I should pay the extra?

make sure the pump is a GMB and the belt a Gates and youll be apples

Given it takes a few hours to do, you only have to do em every 100k and either failing can lead to engine failure its worth spending the extra to get the good parts

Vitara engines are non-interference arent they?

Still, don't want to have to replace it early when an extra $40 could save a few extra hours of work.

I've tracked down a GMB pump for $59, and a Goodyear belt and GMB bearing in a kit for $79.
