Morning all,

My rear brakes shoes are up for changing.



I've never changed the shoes before but have changed the pads on the front.

How do I go about changing them? I've taken a few pics but all of the springs etc are confusing me.

Is there anything in particular I should be aware of - handbrake etc?

What kind of Suzuki?

They are generally just a mess of springs and clips, do one side at a time to make sure you have the springs in the right way and position.

No not put your foot on the brake when changing them (like all brake changes)

Depending on what car is depending if you need to adjust them after they are done

The hardest bit is getting the springs back on. Have some good longnose pliers handy.

It's a 2002 J20A GV. What's annoying is I have a feeling the shoes may be from the older Vitara because the front pads are from the Vitara as well. I had a real headache trying to find the correct front pads as well.

They look very similar to the shoes in the back of my SV420 SWB which had different shoes to the SV620 LWB.

The Brake shop I use have a book of shoes with pictures of the the cutouts for the adjusters & springs, are you able to take as set in for comparison.

i was supplied with N1735 shoes which weren't quite right some of the holes didn't line up & the location of the adjuster wasn't right, took photo's of the original brake shoes & went back to Power Brakes & the right ones which are N1758

I ended up with the N1735 after much searching through the catologue

best to take them in for comparison (or a photo as suggested)

The N1735 would be correct for the SV620 LWB Vitara.

Atari does the sv420 drum brakes have a auto adjuster i have a 97 model. And due to change mine.
