Post subject:  Glass removal
I rang Windscreens O'Brien today to get a cost on the uninstall/reinstall of my front and rear glass, but they wanted way too much personal info for the sake of a simple over-the-phone quote.

Anyone else got an idea of what this'd cost?

I can manage the side glass myself, but front and rear looks like a job for someone else.

its an easy job. you can remove easy enough. worked at a windscreen mob for a while. you remove them with a hooked screwdriver or somethin similar. and you reinstall them with small rope inside the rubber, run the rubber 1 and a half times around the windscreen sit the window in place and just rope it in. they will charge you anything between 60-100 per window. when its easy enough to do yourself

Got an install only a while back....$100 On a coily though, they silicon in, not the seal kind.

No. It came to $135 in the end to remove old one, fit new rubber seal and in stall new one.

What about removeing the door windows? ive red a few old posts in regards, but instructions are a bit off, or missing details in steps to get them off?

Can anyone help me wit this?

I cut out a piece of perspex for the Maruti back, stock rubbers unavailable, so got some 2 piece stuff, second smaller is a lock once the window is in place.

Tried with string, tried force, tried swearing at it, tried begging it, nothing worked, fukit, drove into town, bought another piece and cut it out bigger, and siliconed it in.

Was only a week or so ago I had a new window put in up front, watched real careful so as to be able to do the back myself.

Yea right, bullshit hard job.

Door windows are reasonably easy, I can do them. You have to take of the door trim, an then wind the window down about half way, either end there is a clamp with 2 screws holding the window firm on the winder mechanism.

The water seals at the top of the door, that the window lays against need to come out, undu the 4 screws holding the window and simply pull out.

Well, its a bit of a wriggle, remember how you got it out so its not total guess work in refitting.

Got the seal off that goes around the window. Can undo the outer sil seal (pull firmly and it just comes off), but not the inner with the fluff on it... can't find the 4 screws?

You have to remoe the door opener, window winder and handle from the inside of the door, then using a flat screwdriver, find the clips that hold the trim in place, and lever out, the screwdriver is so you don't bust the clips, they are getting old and fragile mostly.

Wind the window down about half way, look inside and see the mechanism, where it connects the window to the steel frames, one clamp either end, 2 screws per clamp.

The arms that are the winder mechanism, scissor jointed, at the ends of these.

I only have single screws on the clamps...

Hey what do you call the door rubber bit that seals the top sides of a closed window - mine are trashed.

they are the biggest ripoffs i know and it pisses me off to when they want all this personal info for a quote. I asked modern sloar how much for a 2kw system installed on a tiled double story roof and they wanted my life story as well as my inner leg measurement. i said just tell me the price, they insisted on the info so i said dont worry about it.

try suzi auto or somone from the yellow pages. fukheads obrien wanted $180 to repair 2 chips in the front window and suzi auto were $130 for a new indscreen fitted! I ended up getting them repaired from a yellow pages guy for $88 and he drove to me.
