changed the rear brake shoes in my little jimny this-morning news to me they aren't self adjusting... also were a prick to do.... bring on a rear disk conversion! checked my wheel bearing for any movement while i was at it. passenger side has no movement if you push on the top and bottom of wheel... but if you pull both top and bottom of the tyre at same time it moves out about 2mm. with a clunk/tap as the axle/bearings/what ever moves. my holiday starts next sat and will be wanting to drive 3-3.5 thousand k's traveling down south and back... any thoughts 01 jimny with just over 100000k's on it btw |

ooo they changed them 
lever 6 pushes down on teh serrated bit on rod 3 with the help of spring 7 when the shoe can move a long way (from adjustment being low) lever 6 lifts up till there is enough spring force to turn the adjuster they wont adust from nothing themselves and if the thread in rod 3 seizes up they will stop adjusting but they do work, sometimes I agree, Suzuki are stupid fitting that setup go disc

unscrewing them all the way and putting never seize on them and screwing em back up helps there I wouldnt do the bearing but i'm lazy |

haha yeah i put anti-seize on them =] any idea what bearing will cost me? will be taking it to the mechanic as i will have to get it done this week. |

Really  Suzistore has allways quoted me 3 to 4 hours 
I know how to do them myself now anyways but it takes me a bit longer then 4 hours

Whilst driving on the road can you hear a low pitch rumblin sound that goes away when u stab the brakes lightly momentarily? If so the bearings would need a change I drove on my rooted bearings for ages. 3+ months. 2mm play is about 1mm play too much but from what u have described I would say it would be fine. Just keep an ear out for that low rumbling noise as thats a good indication that they are stuffed. The worst thing that can happen is the bearing doesnt get enough lube and the outside cage welds itself to the housing. In a more powerful vehicle you will tend to outdrie it when that occurs and then the inner cage siezes to the axle shaft, then bingo lock up and the wheel may fall off if the axles weakens and snaps. The real issue is the 100km an hour driving that is going to build the heat up in the components. |

I press mine off and i reckon its much quicker. By the time I find BFH, drop it on my toe several times, get he angle grinder, finds its got the grinder wheel in it, hunt round for the cut off disk, drop it under the bench, swear a bit, find another one, look for the key to unlock the grinder disk, drop that, swear some more, plug it in find it wont reach the bench, look for a extension cord, then remember it is upstairs connected to the TV, walk up stairs, get mesmerized by the pretty moving colours on the telly for an hour or so, decide to unhook it and get the extension cord then forget what I was doing with it then start on the mowing, get part way through the mowing then remember what I needed the extension cord for, go back to the bearing job, plug the cord it pick up the grinder, start to cut, get some steel in my eye, swear that I swore last time I said I would never using moving tools without glasses, make my way to the doc, who injects the eye with battery acid, then go back home with a patch on, only to find tools strew verywhere and the mowing half down, give up and go upstairs to watch telly, Swear, the damn thing wont turn on. 
So yeah I bought a press...damn good I tells ya, damn good!

oh almost forgot. it is also oozing a bit of grease. hutch i know what you mean. i have a lack of tools. also have a lack of a shed... doing stuff in the driveway i always loose shit... things that should take 30 mins some times take 2 hours. sometimes longer if the sun starts to go down. head torches are good =] |
