I have just got myself a 90 model maruti, reading about it I can't really understand what it's got.
Can anyone tell me what's required to fit a 1.3 or better yet a 1.6 efi.

Cheers

To fit a 1.3 you'll need to move the engine mounts or replace with 1.3 mounts.
To fit a 1.6 you can use an adapter kit that will bolt up to 1.3 mounts.

Gearbox tunnel will need enlarging a bit to fit 1.3 box.
Wiring, radiator mounts, airbox, exhaust is all different too but easily overcome.

Cheers for the reply if you have to enlarge the tunnel are you better to use a vitara 5 speed ?

You'd have to enlarge it even more to fit a VIT 5 speed and then you'd have to use the VIT transfer or adapt the box to run a jackshaft to a Sierra transfer.. Lots more work.. Oh and gearbox mount would need work too.

So best way would be to take body off chasis to do it ?

I reckon that would make the mods easier to undertake.

Mate have a chat to Mr Rocky on here. He's got a 1.6L Baleno engine in his maruti and he did all the work himself.

Im guessing you have a 4spd box?
In which case the 5 spd guts from a 1.3L fit into the maruti 4 spd case. Not sure on how that would go matching up to a vit or baleno engine, but another option.

Not real sure but I would say that 1.0 Sierra would be damn close.

* i used 2" body lift to clear bonnet (not sure if necessary)
* maruti g/box yoke fits the 5spd
* 5spd bolts to 4spd mounts
* j/shaft is the same
* radiator mounts are different and rad is smaller on maruti
* fire wall may need a bit of a bash with a hammer to clear motor
(for baleno)
* i used 1.6 fusebox and loom and powered and earthed wires from the ecu pinout diagrams (pj zook has these i think)
* sump and pick up may need to be swapped and modded (mine was already done)
* engine mounts are totally different for 1ltr ( i used 10mm plate bolted to standard mounts as per christovers mounts on outerlimits
* exhaust manifold is different
* I used a carby lift pump feeding an efi (maybe vl) pump where the fuel filter was near the tank on the chassie and relocated the filter to engine bay.

thats all i can recall of the top of my head
