hi all just looking into a few option for the zook in the way of getting some more km's between filling up. but first i want to make sure my engine aint too thirsty compaired to others. currently with my webber im gaining about 350kms before i need to fill up. and thats when she is almost dead empty, so to fill up she takes 38L of the 40L tank! is this sort of milage average for a zook? i ask as my engine has done about 240,000 and is starting to show her age a little bit, and i dont want to waist time of moding tank mounts, jerry cans etc if i could spend a bit of time on refreshing my engine and gain a couple of ponies and milage at the same time. thanks Jordan |

That mileage is about average 10.8L/100km If you want longer range without changing fuel tanks or carrying jerry cans, change the way you drive. The easiest way to save fuel is to drive at 80km/h max, and you will find your economy is much better, and even long drives only take 15-20 mins longer. Or slip stream trucks (not very safe) It is the terrible aerodynamics which give the zooks poor highway fuel economy. Remembering drag is proportional to velocity squared. Trips may take you a little longer, but you are saving a heap of money and driving is less stressful. If you did sit at the speed limit and spend more on fuel, the time you saved during the day would probably have been wasted by sitting infront of the tele or on the computer anyway. |

time spent watching tv is never wasted!!!! i get about 330km running the tank to dry, but my speedo is more than 10% off, im actually doing 100km/h when it reads 88km/h. so going off that, i get maybe 360-370km per tank assuming im babying it... 225,000km on the clock, never rebuilt. |

I get 11.5L/100km normally ... 13.5L/100km offroad and towing unladen trailer ... 15.0L/100km towing laden trailer Slipstreaming trucks isn't that bad really. I usually call them on the UHF and ask if they mind me tucking in behind until xxxxx (usually the next roadhouse for a refill...) and I've not had one yet who had a problem with it. Just don't stick *too* close ... you should be able to feel the tail end of the draft by the slight sideways push and pull you'll get in the eddies - keep just ahead of this (about 30m for a road train) and you'll be fine. That gives you about 1s of reaction time assuming you can brake at least as quickly as the roadtrain which is pretty likely! |

How much does engine mileage (ie - i've got 220K on the clock) affect the outcome here? Will a rebuilt engine be noticeably more efficient than my old motor? I'd also like to know what people with carby 1.6 conversions are getting from their sierras/vits |

will let you know on that one, i had a 230K G13B in mine that has just bit the dust. it is being replaced with a 57K G13B out of a barina. It will have more power and hopefully a bit better fuel efficiency |

That's a cool link eldo, I thrashed my Vitara around town this week & got 12.6l per 100 kms, I might try to drive it a bit more sensibly & see what I get. |

1.6 carby motor, 30's, on a badly tuned sierra carb and i can get anywhere from 300 to 370km on roughtly $35. All depending on how and where i drive, my car hates trips into town it chews the fuel that way. |

It is running a bit rich though an the trip meter would be out because of the bigger tyres. Speedo is out by about 8%.. but yeh, still pretty crap for a 1.3l engine in a 900kg car lol |

what isnt 10-11lt per 100 good enough for you? sierra's are probably one step more areodynamic than a house brick or shipping container. live with it tight arse or buy a corolla

Nah it never used to bother me, just sucks when I'm trying to save $250 of my $300 per week wages and my car costs me $60 a week in petrol to go to school lol. Also my best mates 93 barina gets like 500ks to a 40l tank so he allways pays me out about it lol. |
