Fellas as im putting shocks on the back of a zook at the moment i have them at about a 45 degree angle as thats about the only way they fit under the tray. this said i did a bit of research and made up a couple of spread sheets and it is evident that there is only a portion of the wheel movment up and down seen by the shocks when they are mounted this way (this is intuitive really ) now the real problem is the shocks need to see some up and down movment that is they need to see a velocity to perform any damping. what i want to know from those that have tried it do shocks set up like this /\ on a 45 inwards provide any effective damping or are they expensive fancy pieces of wank factor. |

mine work fine. i have no bouncing at all except when really overloaded and i hit a washout or something. |

mine certainly work and theyre laid over around 45 degrees. my shocks are very stiff though. |

My rancho's snapped my shockie crossmember in half hows that for dampening. Remember most shocks are setup for a 2ton vehicle not a 900kg car so loosing some dampening effect is actually better for most brands. |

I run mine on a near 45 deg angle,BUT the reason for not running them laid over are as simple as. if the shock is setup and valved for a sierra and certain suspension setup and you lay them over your effectively changing the levearge/travel ratio that they are deigned to run at, and therefore altering the set damping rate of the shocker. |

And I can confirm that the rear end of AJSR's car is VERY softly damped as a result of the shock angle he's running. Steve. |

I run IFS Hilux Rear Shocks in the rear of mine laid over around 30 deg off verticle and find that at that rate and angle they provide an absolutely sweet ride on road and flex nicely through the ruts. i also run 60 Series Rears in the front of my Zook, both RidePro Shocks...cheap and good quality. The higher rate for the bigger vehicles work well when laid over in the zook. it rocks on fast dirt roads. |

while on topic of inboarding shocks, has anyone ever done this to the rear of a vitara?? i dont think its possible with the stock lower shock mounts, (dont allow for that direction of movement) but if modified mounts are made the would it be possible? showing stock mounts

so you want to lower the lower bracket? You'd just be creating something to get snagged on, and shocks and shock mounts dont like being pummelled =) |

i think he wants to run longer shocks so move the top to the center of the vehicle and change the orientation of the lowers ? |

ahhh yeah im with you... yeah you'd need to custom fab a new mount as the orientation of that one needs to change by 90 degrees (so the bolt that goes through the shock faces front/back not side/side as it currently is. Then you'd likely need to make a new chassis crossmember to hold the shocks, which will be hard with the body on... so its a big job! is it just me or does that bottom shock mount bolt on? |

i'd call in to Brian at suzistore tomorrow (between 8 and 12)... if he hasnt done it he'd know what he'd have to do and should be able to give you a price estimate on the spot. I'd sit down before he tells you what that price is though =) haha |
