How the fuck do I get the headlight globe out?

I've got somewhere I need to be, am trying to get this globe changed before then, it's raining and I've got to do it outside because the sierra is too tall to fit under the roller door.

Please explain.

if its a sealed beam you don't
the headlight is the globe.

You gotta be kidding..

Yeah it's a sealed beam, I assumed it opens from the front.

So what the hell do you do when it stops working? surely i'm not going to be replacing the whole assembly?

Next question, How's the whole assembly come out? lol.

I've undone the 3 screws from the front, unplugged it, does the grill need to come out?

Yep. If its a 1.3L the grill needs to come out.

Oh for the love of god, this is a lot of work for just one headlight.

Its not that bad, simply unscrew the couple of screws in the grille and remove grille (i have cable ties not screws), then unplug the dud headlight at the back, then push the whole light inwards and rotate (you dont need to undo the three screws, if you do then you will have to readjust your headlights). Then swap the metal surround onto your new light, and reverse the process.

that, or go to the wreckers and buy some headlight assemblys that arent the sealed type. a lot less hassle to fix bulbs... i grabbed one for my car sierra at a wrecker, but it has volvo written on it. from what i read, other cars such as patrols have the same size, therefore fit i THINK.

although IMO you are better with the sealed type, no risk of water getting into the headlight, ive had a few bulbs shatter because of that...

real quartz globes wont shatter when wet

Author:  whincup [ Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:15 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Quick question! RE: Headlights

well i only assume they shatter when wet, theyre only cheapish ones i grabbed from a servo on the way home from a track.

which actually give the better, brighter lighting? sealed or non sealed?

unsealed are usually brighter cos u can run higher wattage in them.
