:D hey guys, just bought a 91 1.3lt sierra, its got 2inch body, 2inch suspension and extended shakles.
first question:
people say to put vs wagon rear shock in the front of the zook, but the ones ive got are ultimas and they are longer travel by about 4inchs or so....???
so i was thinking whats the ponit of putting others in if the ultimas travel longer...
next.. the lift in it i have no idea what brand it is, but the flex isnt that good.... i mean it could be if i stodd on the wheel when its off the ground.
is it due to the springs (4 leaf fronts) should i take the load bearing spring out? or get softer springs?
transfer gase gears: if i can get 6.5:1 for the same price as 4.16:1 should i get them and is it 20% reduction in 2H or 12% ? and how much do you have to grind the transfer case out to fit the 6.5:1's ?
fuel issue: starving up steap hills.... is it due to not having a electronic pump on or is it due to the carby ......
if its the fuel pump should i remove the mechanical pump and put a block off on the head and fit a electronic... (if anyone has done this, please leave some feed back in regards to this issue....) ..
and if anyone has any tips for me just post them here :)

Wow, firstly, please, for the ease of everyone here... PUNCTUATE!

Secondly Hello,

1) if you have longer shocks and your happy with them, leave it

2) Springs is one of those things you just don't know, play with them, if they are hard take leave out, too soft, put more in, alternatively yes you can buy softer ones, but some of the softer ones have a tendency to snap/bend (at the end of the day, set up wrong or under alot of strain all will deform/break)

3) What size tyres are you running? What sizes dif gears??? What are you wanting to achieve, and finally, do you REALLY need t-case gears?

4) search the forum for 1.6L Vitara efi conversion...

On that note ALL of the questions you have asked have been answered 0984986348723658726358726358768 million times before, so please, in future, use the search function first, if you can find it, then ask.

just want be able to climb lots of shit, so im thinking also rear lockrite locker and front air.
id rather not convert to efi, i mean i want to
but cbf mucking around and having the car off the road.
i would rather keep her how she is for reliablity and make it good as is.

as 5ierra said shocks leave em in if they are better the commo hiace set up is simply for a cheap and effective way of getting longer cheap shockies to suit your lift but if you have a better set up keep em in dont fix what aint broke. also you want to climb heaps of shit well my best bet would be have a bit of a search for the 1.6L carby off a vitara they are supposedly the better of choices for carbys, i couldnt tell you as ive only had the 1.3L carby and a webber. their are no issues with the mechanical pump i just found you just need to keep revs up for it to pump the fuel faster when on hills. and yes lockrite in the rear and air in the front is what i would do or twin air but money talks. with gearing im running 31"s and my stock gears are crap if your going to spend the money id get the 6.5's thats what id like and im pretty sure it returns your driving back to stock and speedo and so forth back to stock with 31"s i on the other hand have just bought a 1L transfer with a switch and im pretty sure it will do me just quiet fine. and their is very little grinding some guys on here have not grinded anything put them in and turned it on and let the gears grind the case away itself so it will not be much that needs to be done.

This isn't true.

Pauly, odds are your 91 has it's original fuel pump. They seem to be giving up at about the age yours is.

I wouldn't bother with an electric pump. Just fit a new genuine replacement factory pump and you will have reliable fuel delivery and one less thing to have to think about. There's no reason to run an electric pump unless you are going to a HP fuel system of EFI.

Some T/C gears require grinding, others don't. Why is grinding the case an issue? If you can install the gears yourself (i.e you have the tools and mechanical knowledge) then grinding the case is a no brainer.

31's are near enough 20% bigger than stock. Most 6:1 gearsets drop high range 17%, 4:1 gearsets 12 %. 6:1's are a better solution for road use.

Depending on your terrain, 6:1's might be a bit too low for 31's offroad. They are certainly too low unless you have lockers as you do loose some ability to build momentum and bounce over obstacles rather than drive though them.

If you like steep terrain though and making it look easy, 6:1's are great.

awesome. ill replace the fuel pump and put a kit threw the carby and see how we go. also doing the starter motor too this weekend. still debating weather or not to take a leaf out tho...
