i have adjusted the cable under the car and it still won't work....
the cable goes into the transfer case, it is a real pain in the ass, i'm not sure how this handbrake setup works.
i haven't checked my drum pads, but if the handbrake goes into the transfer how does it actually work??

That'd be the brake on the back of the transfer?

well it looks like the cable goes into the front side of the transfer case. has the transfer actually got a separate brake on it?

It should
Did you hook up the handbreak cable to the WT diffs when you installed them?
If not, no =P
I'm also interested in the best way to adjust the xfer case handbrake.. Mines useless haha

I'm guessing it would be much like adjusting the shoes on the back brakes. There should be a plug to remove and adjust on the drum (transfercase). You just use a flat bladed screw driver to adjust it. If it DOES NOT have a plug you may have to remove the tailshaft to adjust it.

nah champ your right on the fornt of the drum is where the handbrake cable goes in. i was told look on the back of the drum towards back of the car car there will be a littl hole. if you look in there there will be what looks like a little cog get a flat head screw driver and turn it thats how you adjust your hand brake. i done this it improved it a lill but i still have a little bit of play probably 50 to 100mm of movment where i can roll the car im not sure if thats normal for a nt hand brake or not. but that's how i was told to adjust the hand brake. also your cable could be stretched so try adjust it up and see if it works if not maybe time for a new cable.

There is 2 adjuster's for the h/brake.
both at the top & assessable through the hole in the drum..

My handbrake is 1st or reverse..
Never rely on your handbrake in any situation.
A mate did with a rocky. Almost lost it off a cliff. And he tried to stop it... Lucky the tree stopped it before him.

Brake shoe. Similar setup to the rear drums except they don't have hydraulic cylinders. You'll probably find the shoes are clogged with dried mud and dirt.

I have to adjust my hand brake and kinda confusing with this thread...
The quote below is how I adjusted my STI, but not too sure if it is the same case with the sierra?
I have a NT car/diff so the adjusting cog thing is on the TF case not on the rear brakes??
Quote: Keep in mind there are two steps to the parking brake adjustment, usually one being unnessesary and is usually reserved for those vehicles of an older age since their cables tend to stretch longer than factory specs of thier time. But seeing that you have a MY03, it's probably not needed.
I've had a MY98, and have never had to adjust my lever, ever.
The first step should be always adjust the parking brake itself, NOT adjust the parking brake lever to compensate for the parking brake. Then if it feels like it still goes too much over the 4-7 notches, that is when you adjust the lever.
To do that you need to be under tha car. First, disengage the parking brake.
Behind the rear discs there is a rubber oval-ish shaped plug on the backing plate, below the hub bolt that holds in the lateral links. Remove that with a screwdriver or brake adjuster tool.
Keep in mind the rubber plugs are stuck in pretty good.
You will also see and arrow pointing upwards on either left or right of the hole.
Inside the hole you will see a starwheel, and you tighten it with a brake adjusting tool (or a screwdriver, a bent tip one works best) by moving the starwheel up, indicated by the arrow.
After it is all tightened, you should not be able to turn the tires with you hands.
Next loosen the starwheel 4-5 notches. I personally turn the tire around while loosening the starwheel so I can "feel" exactly when I should stop loosening, but it is usually 4 notches anyways
Put the plug back in.
Repeat these step for the opposite side.
