Hey all, this has possibly been covered but i cant find it... 92 lwb vitara with body & suspension lift... gearstick will not lock in 2H (2wd) so im stuck in 4H...if i push it hard from 4L (top of the gearbox) down into 2H sometimes it will go into 2H for a bit but wont lock in, it just jumps back into 4H once you start driving === the gear stick looks like its pretty bent .... and ive pretty much always had trouble getting it to click back into 2H from 4wd since ive had the car, but have always been able to get it back into 2H by holding it in position then waiting for a 'clunk' after driving a short distance..... any ideas? i know sweet fa about cars oh yeah and its pretty bad for the transfer to be driving in 4wd right? Cheers josh |

Body lift will do that along with quite a few other thing that I hope you have attended to like Brake lines F&R Brake portioning valve. If you remove the rubber boot from the gear leave & the Transfer leaver and look at what is going on you will get a better Idea of how to fix it. |

I blame body lift!! Sound's like the stick has pressure on it from the boot or the body of the car, not letting it stay in selected gear.. |

its only got a small amount of body lift - think its 3/4 inch or something (i didnt put it in)...should that still be a problem oh and yeah ive tried to remove the boot but cant figure out how to without my blowing my fuse and getting over-vigorous / borderline violent .... |

dude pull the boot off, and where the gearstick goes into the transfer push down on the circular bush looking thing and turn it, it only turns on way, then u will be able to pull the stick out and reposition the stick where its meant to go |
