Post subject:  O2 sensor plug

Just went to replace my O2 sensor, and they have a bosch replacement for my model vitara but it has a round one pin plastic plug.
In mine i have 4 pin plastic plug that the one wire sensor goes into, with no other wires in the plug.

Is this normal? why have a 4 pin plug with nothing else in it?

i thought there were 2 types of o2 sensors on the Vitara's a single wire one & the 4 wire heated jobbie?

Well i'm thinking mine could be wrong, coz my plug has more than one wire going back to the ecu. But my sensor only has one wire doing into the 4 pin plug.
The bosch book only listed the 2 sensors they showed me, one universal single wired job and a single wired one pin plugged one.

is it an aftermarket ecu?
if so that might be why its running the other sensor

Does the car run fine at the moment?

edit: harness for the other sensor(but they used the single wire)

my factory plug looks like this, mine is the j20a but it runs a 4 wire o2 sensor, you can see the joiner that comes with the universal o2 sensor as the wires can't be soldered.

I replaced mine the other week, and according to the destructions you can modify it for the universal single wire o2 sensor.

I'll try and find the diagram it came with..

Single wire is ok .
PM Nissvit or Westie as they can tell you how to hook it up .
Westies a 94 model and has just recently done this to his and I'm about to do mine , just haven't got around to it yet.

damn I don't seem to have the instructions, but if it's any help I used a Tridon TOS 011

If you like, I'll take some pics of the plug tommorow.

The other three wires in the plug? surely they were made for something?

Thanks buzzy, they looked at the tridon one on the puter and it only showed a universal.

Mine is a 93

Mine is exactly the same as that buzzy, but whats the point of not using the other 3 wires? Surely they were put there fore a reason?
