Are the standard Tow hooks on the Vitara strong enough to withstand being snatched?? ' If Not, I need to know what to get... I mean its not like I intend to get stuck but wish to know the Safe Area's on a Vitara for Recovery.. I have the D-Shackles (3.5T rated) and just want to know, If I have to get pulled out, are the stock Tow positions safe?? I know not to attach the D-Shackles to the Bumpers or the Bullbar but what area's are safe?? |

Have you got a towbar? Take the ball out and put your shackle through the hole the ball bolt was in. At the front use the D on the passenger side. It is strong enough to take the weight of the Vit, but don't use it to recover a heavier car. Cant recomend using the rear loop as it was gone when I got my rig, torn off, not cut... |

There really is not anywhere to mount recovery points easilly. The best spot for D-shackles is the tow bar tongue at the rear and the front loop. That costs nothing if you have the tow bar. If you don't have a tow bar, try and mount a hook into the threaded holes in the rear chasis rail where the tow bar bolts on. You'd need an adapter plate made up to do this. Just never hitch off a tow ball as there are a few deaths each year hitching off the ball when the ball breaks off. Thats why I say take the ball out and put the shackle where the ball was. One day, I'll build a rear bar and incorporate a rear hitch and recovery points, not so sure about the front cos I have got a good bull bar so won't be putting an ARB bar with recovery points built in for a long time. the recovery hooks are only about $20, but where to mount it might cost more.... so the tow bar is a good option. I have seen a hook mounted on the tow bar where the tongue bolts on. |
