this is how i fix clicky starters

pull the solenoid trigger wire off the starter solenoid
Image
use a normal 30/40 amp relay and earth it to the battery and using 40amp or better
power string run power from the battery to the relay and then from the relay
to where the trigger wire usually lives on the starter.
Image
then use the old starter trigger wire as the trigger for the relay.
Image
then wrap a bit of tape around the relay to keep the smoke in and cable tie it to something.
and then hay presto, ya starter now works properly. :D ( dont forget to trim the cable tie so it looks like a professional job  )

What do you mean "clicky"?

My Starter occasionally makes a high pitch grinding noise and doesn't engage. It's probably not the same thing, but if it is and a fix as simple as this works you will have made my day :D

Post subject:  Re: clicky starter fix

i believe the clicky starter issue is when you turn the key you get a click and nothing else,

the noise your describing sounds like the starter solinoid on its way out.

dumb question - but how does rewiring it fix it? whats the actual cause of the clicky starter??? I just assumed the starter motor itself was on its way out?

Post subject:  Re: clicky starter fix

my starter has started clicking again so doing the relay fix gives ya about 15 months extra life out of a starter.

if i get time this weekend i will share stage 2 of how to dodgy a starter motor.

Post subject:  Re: clicky starter fix

Can also be the battery not giving enough power to the starter. With the extra voltage drop of the stock wires with a half flat battery it can be enough to not get anything from it.

Crap same as mine then, any chance of overhauling or getting just a new solenoid and not a whole new starter?

My zook had this done over 12 months ago but now every now and then i get nothing from the starter motor no click nothing just silence. Might be time for a new starter :deadhorse:

Pull it apart and see if you can just clean up the solenoid
