Gonna be looking at getting brand new pinion and ring gears soon. Just wondering which ratios to get. Was thinkin either 5.38 or 4.57. I have 6.5:1 transfer gears and 35 silverstones and is driven on the street |

Is this a question or a statement? there are gearing calculators on various sites seach around a bit. personally I think 5.3's and 6's in the transfer will be too low for a daily but thats why you need to work it out for your self, can you live with it. |

Not sure where I'll get them yet as lowrange seems cheap and Trail gear. Any links to the calculators |

Check on US E-bay for "Samurai Gears", there are heaps of listings of both ratios all the time from a variety of sellers. But why go those particular ratios? You could find a set of Vit 5.125 or 4.625 gears here for a fraction of the price.. |

Shipped to Newcastle, Low Range Offroad wants like $600AUD for 2x 5.38:1 R&P gears Best value ANYWHERE Ebay is ~$700-750AUD And Locktup is around $900AUD |

4.1 from a maruti WT. 4.3 from vitara (GV?) 4.6 from vitara |

In order or rareness ( is that a word??  )
4.3 vit 4.1 maruti 4.6 vit 5.12 vit. What makes life hard with the vit R&P's is you need the front gears from 2 vitaras, not just one.

New or old, when your bound up on a rockface, they will let go. |

Doubtful, stock CVs and Axle Splines will fail before R&P Gears do That said, Spider Gears are generally weaker than R&P anyway, not to mention they cop alot more abuse on rock.. Unless you're locked up! |

I have never snapped a axle or a CV, but i've broken a few centres, one which was smashed ring and pinion teeth, i even watched a mate do one on his hilux a couple of months back, bit too much throttle, one wheel in the air, the wheel touched down and *bang*... seven teeth gone. CV's and axles still look like new. (thats was on 29's and standard everything). |

I have a customer (who is also a friend) with a 2009 Jimny. We have given it a little lift, and supplied some 15x6 black steelies with 235/75R15s. It now needs ratios & traction control. Any advice? He tells me that his high pinion front and low pinion rear contain 4.3:1 gears. |

Whilst the brochure said that 4.3's were possible on automatic Jimny's, apparently nobody has every seen any, so they're generally all 4.1. Whilst the rear of a jimny is the same as sierra, so can run any ratio a 1.3 sierra can, the front of jimny is unique to the jimny. There are some ways to run a sierra diff, but it's pretty much a fabrication project and requires steering modifications etc. (because there's no high pinion sierra diff) I'd be looking at leaving the diffs alone and fitting a gear driven sierra transfer case. It's a bit complex to do, and not all that cheap if you sort the speedo drive and have to buy parts, but it will fix both high and low range nicely. With 235 tyres, even stock gearing would be fine, or some 4:1 transfer gears would be sweet with lockers in the diffs. Others may have a different take on the solution. Steve. |
