Hi all,

What capacity do you guys use? I know we only have small zooks etc so a 9000kg one is probably over kill. Any suggestions on brands?

you can get a recovery kit off ebay for around $70 or so.
i got a 9000kg arb one, but i do go driving with pootrols and a rockys that need help sometimes

a few other brands are tjm, ox, black rat, maxi track all pretty much the same.

i have a few, my best one is a cheap one from supercheap. the blue "tow 2 go" one was only $50 and its better than my last ARB one!!!!!

just remember, one cheap strap is better than nothing!

So true keechox, I got one of them $100 sets from autobarn, 1xstrap 2xD shackles 1xpair of gloves 1x V sheet. Works well, used it a few times and hasn't frayed yet.

i use t-max 6000lb straps and t-max 4000kg 20mtr extension straps, i have 4 of each and
they work great. i don't bother trying to recover anything bigger then a Suzuki any more as they don't deserve it.
the snatch straps cost me $35 and the extension straps cost $40

i got the tjm kit, it has a red strap. As soon as it gets wet the red dye comes out everywhere. Good kit just a piss off about the colour running out on everything.

My 3yo ARB strap has never yet me down. its only been used to either pull out my zook or my zook snatchin on it so its had a relatively easy life.

It does get looked after though and washed out after mud ect.

i like the 6000lb ones as they actually work as a snatch strap. the heaver ones are the same as using steel cable.

I agree with Shep.

I keep thinking I should get a new one but it still looks fine. Has a couple of slight frays but nothing serious. Don't know what brand it is and have had it for a long time.

Fuck I can't stand website that don't have prices. you have to contact them & wait. I think they would sell a shit load more if you could just add it to a cart then pay.. My 2 cents anywho lol..

i have stolen my old mans since he sold his 4x4 and i got my first zook hes is a black rat im pretty sure its great used it to tow a car home when my engine died and caught on fire recently and i have used it towing my zook qnd was always used when we owned our pajero prob been like 5 years of use and still perfect condition love it

Exactly, I use a piece of nylon rope, around 7,000kg and 40m long, can be shortened of course, but it works a treat, is somewhat like a big elastic band, and very gentle on both cars.

i paid $50 for a home brand one in a 9000kg and i cant kill it id suggest you get a nylon one i believe all the other ones rot from being wet i also never have washed my nylon one just hang it on the clothes line

BCF have the "JUST STRAPS " brand . They seem to be one of the very few that sell 6000kg snatch straps which I believe is the correct rating for the Zooks. I'm sure they also sell 5000kg ones as well.

Hi Shep , I would be inclined to agree but just don't know of anyone who makes them . I've checked the Just Straps web site and their lowest rating is 6600kg Minimum breaking strain . That's why I mentioned them.
If you can tell me who makes a 6000lb straps I'd be intersested.

when snatching a car the aim is to get the car out with the minimum effort.
if you have a nice streechie snatch strap and start of nice and slow, most cars will just pop straight out. problems start when people think that you need to be doing warp speed to un-bog a car.
this was probably the hardest snatch recovery that i have done because

A. the driver was an idiot
B. the car was proper berried.
C. 5 snatch straps joined together as the ground was to boggy to attempt a recovery closer to him.
D. had to drag him backwards for around 10 meters before his stupid bull bar and diffs stop grading.

still got him out without busting anything though or stressing ether car.

so take it easy, use the correct gear and if that doesn't work use a shovel or a winch.

I just got one of those recovery kits for christmas and it came with the 10,000kg strap, I have a feeling that thats a definate overkill as well as putting a few rounds in the dead carcase of what ever it is the strap over killed,

I noticed on the packet that they have a 6500kg alternative, would I be better of swapping for the 6500kg??

Also where are good stock recovery points on a zook and/or how can i improve them??

i have a 9000kg black rat its awesome snatch had no problems i use it as ive pulled navars stuck in sand down to the chasis and wheels not touching ground had no problems

I got given a 6,600Kg MBS Minimum Breaking Strenght or 4,400Kg Recovery Load Limit strap for Christmas and got to try it out yesterday.
Very happy with it , the bloke pulling me out said he didn't even feel the me when drove forward and I was down on my chassi and both diffs .
I'm guessing that was because the strap was able to stretch so no sudden jerks occured for him to feel.
