help please !
hello all this is possibly an old question but ... i couldn't get an answer on any of the old topics.
so here goes .
i am replacing the the starter motor in my 96 sierra , BUT the bottom bolt has stuck fast and is rounding out it's head .
i have plenty of tools , a good mechanical background and so any suggestions will be gladly accepted . till then it will have to sit on it,s axle stands .

pretty rare issue.. i have the other way.. mine constantly falls out.. i think i am on my 5th..

u could try pulling the intake manifold off and might make access easyer?

Access to a welder? You might be able to get underneath and weld a nut to the head of it...

Do you have hex hed sockets, impact driver ones, often this will hold while other wont.

six sided socket, or a quick zap with the oxy, or loctite frezze your nut's off.... tap it with a small hammer then go for it....

thanx , but as jonno has said the reason his bolt comes loose is that he didn't have the ken idiot who has obviously loctited this bolt in ! have a welder and lpg kit but not to keen as the fuel delivery hoses are about 50mm away . am also using an impact socket on a breaker bar so i now know for sure ken idiot has been at work with his loctite . will have to think this thru again .

Simply wrap the hoses in some wet rags. there is no vapours so all your concerns are with heat transfer wrecking the lines.

I do oodles of welding this way in tight roof spaces with oxy/acetelyne.

many thanks for all your suggestions . tried welding a bolt to the locked one , but weld broke before anything happened .
then the previously installed immobiliser decided that i wasn,t allowed to start the car........
$245 later the immobiliser was removed and the starter replaced ( die grinder to cut through bracket and break off from mount , closed eyes and walked away ) . when the bolt came out was caked in loctite .
ken idiot would have been proud, $500 for 2cents worth of loctite .
