hey all,
i did a search but came up empty handed, i have just been offered a rear lockrite locker for my vitara for $150. i have been told that 2 of the spring have rusted and need to be replaced, anyone know where i can get a kit from and how much i should roughly pay??

the locker has never been used, just been sitting in a box for a few yrs. next question, it was bought for a 98 2L vitara, will it fit my 96 1.6L vitara? i asked this in chat and was told that it more than likely would fit (thanks atari), just want to double check.

after finding out about the rusty springs i offered him $100, so ill see what he says when he replys.

goto CBC they do a gearbox rebuild kit andthey are all quality japanese bearings

i looked this kit over when josh bought it... they aren't shit, they where NSK and NTN.. CBC is NTN's dristributor in Australia, and NSK is japanese equivalent sold though Statewide, Aussie Bearing and Bearing distributors.

Being a bearing salesman, i would buy this kit personally for my own use. And would not question the quality of the bearings that where supplied in the kit.

also, while josh has a great mechanical aptitude, he isn't a mechanic and it was the first gearbox he rebuilt, and from what i understand either are you.

Josh's bearings that failed where actually MY bearings i supplied him, they where not getting oil in there to lubricate them, over heated and melted.

I actually was after the kit with just the synchro's, as i have a mate who does me awesome deals on good bearings, but they dont sell separate so what can ya do.
For christ sake you lot, if your box starts to whine, strip and rebuild, dont keep taking it on trips and putting earplugs in to drown out the whine hehe. The tooth contact got so bad that the input shaft and layshaft teeth ground themselves down to half their factory thickness hehe, whoops. Now my replacement box has worn synchro's so im gonna replace em. Ive rebuilt plenty of boxes a lot more complicated than a sierra's so thats no problem.

jump on low range and see if its the same part number for the 2 different years of vitara. if it is your set.

looks like there are only two available for the vitarda. 1512 w/o couplers and 1532 with.

Best bet is to ring or email richmond gear and ask them.

Or someone else can tell you if the diff centres are the same, which I am sure they will be

strange, mine was rebuilt buy a "mechanic" who does it for a living. mine is still sitting in the shed as i am not game to run it! mine is that tight i can JUST turn the box over with a rag on the imput shaft.

weeves what would stop the oil getting the to rollers?
