ARGHHHH! Since a few week ago when i changed my leaves and repositioned the steering wheel (it went a bit crooked with the lowered height) its been squeaking just at one point of the turn of the wheel - about 1/8th - 1/4 turn right hand down... its a horrible sound too, nails on a blackboard type stuff.

I've tried backing off the nut on the wheel, removing the wheel completely and established that it still squeaks even without the wheel on it (using a spanner on the nut to turn it). I've smothered with spray on lube (inox) down into the column and its still doing it!!!

Its definitely in the vicinity of the indicator stalks as listening further down its coming from higher up.

Any ideas? its bloody annoying!

Cheers =)

im shitty at my light switch stalk.. the actuall switch bit tends to vibrate in the off position, giving off a REALLY annoying tic. turn it so lights are on.. .. tic goes.. ended up wrapping the end of the stalk in heat shrink.. Fixed :D

sorry cant help with your steering squeek.. keep rippin bits off.. it will eventually stop..

electrical contact grease would work better & longer but would mean taking your wheel off again..
The lil contact that rub's on the steering wheel wear's down over time, I have in the past put solder on the end of the contact, it wear's quicker that copper but is quite..

Or rip it out & fit a horn button..

:? Telepathy?? :?

missed that bit, from memory there is a bearing in the top of the column, you may of damaged that during removal..

*bump* its really very annoying.

you have to remove the column, there will be a circlip on the shaft (firewall side from memory). remove it and the shaft will come out.

so wheel on, remove circlip from engine side of firewall, pull on wheel to pull out whole column?

Isnt there more to it? lol sounds scarily simple =)

I had a look in the manual today & book say's not serviceable..

But the one pictured did look like a collapsible one,P/s maybe..

i thought all sierra columns were collapsible?

Being that its steering i might take it to a professional to get looked into when i get the chance... not something i want to be messing with if theres risk of failure.

a good trick is to drill a tiny hole in your column just before the bearing /bush and spray some silicone lube into it quick simple fix
