Post subject:  Trying to Improve Suspension

Hey guys, My names Kent and I'm from NZ.
I have a 98 coily samurai so those American forums are useless. I lifted it about a year ago with heavy duty springs which were the same length as original but stiffer to give the extra ride height.
Problem is my ride is far to stiff, I'm getting a sore back, head being smashed into pillar when I go over even small bumps at moderate speed.

After talking to a few people who know more than me, they said I should get springs of the original spring rate but longer.
So I'm looking at redoing my suspension, getting custom made springs as no one seems to sell any other options for me.
I am trying to calculate what hieght and what spring rate I may need.
So if anyone has any details on what the stock springs rate of a samurai is (coily or leafy). It would be of great help.

Or

If anyone does know of where to gets some springs which would suit me, feel free to let me know?
Cheers, Kent!

theres a ton of brands offering lifted coils for coilys (2" lift) that are not "heavy duty" which i'd say is what you got.

what you really want is the mushiest squooshiest spring you can find and stiffer shocks to dampen it...

Theres a lot of coily drivers on here so im sure they will have brands to recommend =)

get an ultima lift kit from ebay, it will provide a 40mm lift ( depending on extra weight, bars etc) and the coils are nice and soft. they are also one of the few companies that make extended struts for the front.

here is a pic of my coily i do also have a 2" body lift.

Much appreciated, I was looking for photos earlier but couldnt find them but I will get some up soon.
Just so you know I bought extented Ultima Shocks off ebay but springs from NZ. Cobra ones I think. But 1 year later rear shock leaking but found out that a shock from a nissan vannete fits the rear ones all you need is a crusher tube. So if anyone is doing it on the cheap go to the wreckers!
I have put in a 1600 16v from a suzuki escudo, 30 x 9.5 mud tyres, 50mm body lift, bull bars and side bars, 9500lb winch, and have purchased from ebay but yet to install caster corrected bushings for lifted springs and a return to center steering dampener which should make it much nicer on road. also waiting for a friend to remove his lock rite from his truck to mount in my rear diff.

ive been looking for 80mm lifted springs for ages and a much softer/more articulating ride. found out dobinsons do shocks and springs for most hieghts on the SJ80's. ive got the emails from dobinsons them selves if you want them (got prices and shit) just p.m me.
