Have been attempting to fit a new timing belt on a 13GA as there is no existing belt as a guide I am not sure how to set up timing,It was my under standing that I had to get the no 1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke and the cam pulley on the v mark but when I read the factory manual it shows a picture of the alignment and then has a note that says In this state no 4 piston is at tdc on the compression stroke. Finding this very confusing can any one please help me to understand the procedure. Thanks |

I think there is 2 marks on the crank gear. one is for tdc 4, the other tdc 1. If that makes sense?? It does in my head anyway |

1 and 4 will both be TDC at the same time, but only 1 of them will be on the Comp stroke on the cam. (same with No 2 and 3 cyl). If it doesn't fire, either rotate the cam 180 deg and re-fit the belt, or as Rusho said rotate the Dizzy. You can be a cheapskate, and just move all the leads on the cap 180 deg. |

keyway on the crank pointing up to the mark on the housing keyway on the cam pointing down with teh mark on the pulley lined up witht eh mark on the cover if you have 2 ways the cam pulley can go on if its on the wrong one it wont rev, there is a thread on here somewhere saying which is the right one but hopefully somebody will come along and say before somebody finds it |

when you time it up according to the manual , it is on the exhaust stroke of number 1 cylinder , so you need to rotate the crank 180 degrees to get it on the compression stroke of number 1 . |
