| Post subject: | what motor can i use |
My brother and i just got an 84 sierra for $300 that were going to fix up. Clean original car except 1.3l motor been cooked(no oil). Wondering what motors will go straight in. Is there any other models with the same motor. Were trying to keep costs down but still end up with a good weekender, mainly beach destinations. Any cheap suspension mods would be appreaciated as well.Eg Can I use bigger leafs of another model etc. Any Help would be good. Cheers |

All leaf sierras are/should be the same leafs sizing. The 1L Motor will be the easiest to fit, as everything is setup for it already. Going the 1.3, you will have to change the gearbox, engine mounts-either on the chassis or customise the 1.3 mount, exhaust, practically everything because its a differnt series of motor. |

I made a mistake just went and checked the motor is a 1.3 with a 5speed box. Will any 1.3 fit or will it have to be the same year of the car. I Can get a second hand 1994 g13 from the wreckers for $660 |

For that money I would look for a 1.6 carbie motor out of a vitara. Buy the adapter from BenT (in his thread) and bolt it all up. |

You bought the whole car for 300, an a motor is 660. Sadly, its what happens, look deeper, an you will find much cheaper things. |

So it's an original 1.3 SJ50, or an SJ40 with a motor change (look at Compliance plate)? If it was originally a 1.3, a 1.6 conversion will be the best bang for your buck and not a lot more than your $660 1.3 replacement. |
