Gonna give the beast one last lick of paint over the weekend, just wondering how good rubbing compound would be for getting rid of the minor imperfections here and there caused by rolling paint on? Not expecting miracles, but any cheap tricks to make a roughy paint job look better are worth a try.
This protec stuff sets rock hard after a week and I don't like my chances of rubbing anything off the previous coat at this stage (even 240 grit struggled to level), but i'm now prepped for one last coat.
Rubbing compound might be just the ticket for getting a consistent finish across a whole panel? I'll give it a try if it can come recommended by a few wise men

I'm no panel beater, but I would have though sandpaper would be more effective for knocking the high spots off than cutting compound
Have you tried getting some mechanical help? ( orbital sander )
It would be a much easier job it you could smooth it out now before the next coat goes on.

Exactly what I though, also didn't you use the matt finish, the army boys tell me that they use mineral turps and a scourer to get their units looking ship shape after a bit of abuse.

Oh - the car is smooth, sanded level for next coat - no problems there. Problem with sanding i've noticed is that it knocks the darkness of colour out of the paint, and there's no consistency of colour between the heavily sanded parts of the panel and parts barely touched.
I'm thinking rubbing compound might at least get the same colour across the entire panel. Ultra refined finish isn't the goal - just consistency of finish

are you using water and 1000 grit to rub it back?, rolled on paint (house paint) has a very soft finish compared to a acrylic spray on paint.
To remove the texture try rolling it on with a low pile high gloss roller you would use for gloss on doors and window edges, you would need the paint thick enough to lose a coat when you rub it back. Try 1000 wet and keep the panels wet. If you use an orbital sander you might cut into the paint.
Spray cans are your next attempt if the rolled on paint isnt working.
I can see the house paint getting stained by the cutting compound, also for better consistancy paint one panel at a time with the same tray of paint.

Car has since been prepped dead level, ready for the next coat.
Basically the main problem is blending the paint layer before it gets too tacky - causing a texture difference... I was hoping rubbing compound might help resolve this.
Hard to get right especially on the horizontal panels. Maybe I just need to use a bigger roller to get more coverage, and faster.
Gotta be foam rollers, can't use anything fluffy as it shreds off in the paint once it gets a little tacky.
