I once had a series 4 rx7 and loved the engine + there are heaps of 4ag, g16b and v6 commo conversions out there, i want something different. |

yeh was thinking of the torque problem... plus other things... do you not think the lack of torque would be an issue?? what about a ca18 or sr20.. heaps of better options out here.. 1UZFE.... hmmmmmm..... would have a nice note and enough power. |

Well it will be different, but the ole Wankel really doesn't like to work down low, so you would need very low gearing.. Why not use a mazda box, being a sierra the transfer's divorced anyway & if it's a comp truck you could move the transfer to suit the length of the box, or move the eng a lil forward.. I'm not a fan of the Wankel eng's..... |

mightymouse wrote:  A 13b has about as much torque as a six cylinder so it will be plenty for a sook, think about the road speed the extra revs allow.
In there place, yes, but the place isn't in a comp truck, how many time's will you need to hit 160 in a comp?? Not many... You will need to creep alot. But the torque at high rev's should be fine for that. |

I'm with mightymouse on that, and yes transfer can be moved back if needed. steak_knife - how many comp trucks do u see with big V8's when they could use something smaller. the rotor will have enough torque with the reduction in tranfer and selection of diff gearing. |

I'm looking at the same combo, my worries is with the extra power in the diffs and transfer. I don't think that the transfer would be up to the torque of the rotary. |

Do it...... What diff's are you going to run?? If you & by the sound's you have your mind set on a Wankel, then do it. |

i got 6.5:1's in the t/case now, gonna run lux diffs and can get 5.28:1's for them if i have to |

your missing the point. I'm not worried about gearing, you should be more worried about an alloy case blowing apart when you first load it up on a hill. read this: http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... ic&t=15029 |

Yeah for some reason whenever rotary is mentioned the talk is always about the Torque, I have not looked up the exact figures because I am on my 3rd glass of port and can't be bothered, but from memory a 4age with 100kw has around 150nm torque and a naturally asperated 13B rotary has around 100kw and 180nm torque. Now before everyone starts saying "yes but the KW and NM figures are way up in the revs on the rotary" I agree that they are however in a Suzuki with gears what would be better than another 4 or 5 thousand RPMs. My little Bro had a 12A rotary in an LJ back in the early 90's it was a stock standard engine and it was awesomely smooth, extremely drivable, plenty of torque for the bush and on trips up to Fraser etc it cruised the open road real well. I say be different and just do it |

x2 just do it, they are simply impressive in any form. if there was ever a horsepower factory made by aliens it would be a rotary engine of some sort. |

naturally aspirated 13B: 120kw at 6500rpm and 146nm at 4000rpm. to me thats pretty damn good. 1.6EFI: 71kw at 5600rpm and 133nm at 4000rpm. so all these people that say the torque is useless are saying that a 1.6EFI swap is pointless as well. yes the 1.6 may be a lot easier to put in and you get pretty similar torque but you don't get 120kw to play with either... |

How much does a rotor weigh??? |

I have had a load of rotors over the year and would not hesitate to have another. The main advantage to the rotor is the cheap power. When your in the bush in low range you really don't need that kind of power. Put the rotor into a 1600 or something and have some fun. |

I have an rx8, they are a fantasticly smooth engine and I think a na injected rotary would be great in a sierra with 6.5's and 5's in the diff the gearing would be spoton. the rx8 revs to 9,000 rpm all day long so the deep gearing would be fine it shoud have a nice low cog if done right as the moto is tiny and light. 170 kw and 270nm |

no idea on how much the mazda 5 speed weighs, what would the 1.6 + gearbox - no transfer weigh? |

the gain would be stablity the down side would be fuel range, the rx8 uses more fuel than most v8's ive owned |

I think with the transfer issue it'll be a bit of trialing and see wot happens. fuel want be a problem as it wont be built for the road Rotors are always gonna have there haters and if it don't work there welcome to have there point and laugh session but if it does work, there will be something abit different in the comp scene. |

Dirt trails are fun in a 1.6efi, let alone a rotor! Anything is better than a g13b/a |

The only issue as I can see is exactly as AJSR states, fuel range. I really do not care about fuel milage as such, but range, different story altogether. |
