Checked out all the tire shops I could this morning, seems ~$1000 is a pretty standard price to expect to pay for a set of 4 BFGs, Bridgestones, Coopers, Dunlops, etc in a 215/75/15 sizing... I got quoted $640 for a set of 4 Maxxis Bravo 751s... just wondering what the catch is, that's $400 cheaper than pretty much everything else I came across. |

so far as I know there's no catch.. I'm running those in 235/75/15's and they cost me $680 fitted and balanced.. Haven't had any trouble with em.. Done about 12,000ks so far and they are wearing nicely (hardly wearing at all) Maxxis just don't have their head in the clouds like bf goodrich and Goodyear do |

The only catch is that they're made in Taiwan. I've got them on the vit, and have been running them on and off for about a year now, They're very good onroad and not too bad off. If I plan on going offroad, I chuck on the 30" BFG's I've got, obviously on some sections that the muddies crawled up the AT's needed a bit more momentum. I mainly bought the all terrains for everyday use and easy touring tracks. The acceleration and fuel saving between the two is very noticable. In my opinion, they're a good tyre. Not the best, but good. I've got the Maxxis handbook here if you want more specs. I've been meaning to scan and post up each page, but my scanner seems to be on the fritz. |

OMG $250 a tyre for a 215/75!?!? call ryan at fourbys - www.fourbys.com.au that sounds ridiculous. i've ordered 31" kumho kl71s from ryan for far less that $250! infact thats close to what my 31" simex cost me from him! |

Yeah checked out a heap of places, everything with a name I recognised cost between about $230 and $280. The 751s were obviously made well, the only thing I noticed is the tread wasn't nearly as deep as the other ATs i'd checked out. |

I paid a tad under $500 in 205/75 and was very happy with them in general, great for beach, dirt and very good on road with the only let down being Mud. I have a mate who is an agent for Maxxis in Dunedoo and he swears he has only ever had 2 returns in 5 years of selling them and both were questionable warranties anyway where Maxxis coughed up just to be amicable. |

yeh 215/75 15 seem to be an expensive size maxxis 753 m/t i got quoted $235 each using my old boys trade acount and bf km2's were around the $280 mark i got some hercules terra trac 215/75/15 for $135 ea fitted they are a similar tread to the maxxis 751's only done around a 1000 k's on them but seem pretty good even on wet roads which i thought they may be a bit skatey but i'm happy so far |

X2 They are a Very Good AT, without paying for a big brand name... Here is the info on the Maxxis website about the Maxxis Bravo 751's, if you do get these, make sure you get the LT version (Light Truck) stronger construction - http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLight-T ... eries.aspx I was tossing up wether to get the MA-761 Bravo Series, or the MA-771 Bravo Series... i eventually went with the 771 Bravo in the LT's, i am very impressed with the on and offroad performance... i got my 771's from Bob Jane T-Marts, as they are a new import, and only they sell them... i got 5 x LT225x70/16 for my GV for $920 ($180 each)... if you want more of a deeper chunkier tread than the 751's, and a stronger AT, i recommend the 771's - http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLight-T ... eries.aspx |

id have to agree here looking at the tread pattern. my guess is that they would only be margainly better than a H/T in mud. have heard very good things about them in sand however... then again, never judge a book by its cover... price, i was quoted $180 including fitting & balancing for a 215/75. ended up paying $270 for bfg a/t's. certainly dont regret it! |

I had a set on the zook before upgrading to the Bighorns. I gotta say, they're a pretty good tyre for a pretty good price. They certainly aren't a mud tyre, but they're good on the road, in sand they work well. Depends what sorta driving you're doing as well I guess... |

Checked out some more tires today - I think i'm leaning toward the Maxxis 771 as I agree - the tread looks more agressive, deeper, and also wet road friendly. Smallest size is 235/75/15, which will fit my car, but whatdya reckon - switch from 215s to 235s? If I can get a WA RWC and kinda keep the legality above board (well, general police approval and no regular hassles) i'll do it. |

235/75 is going to want gearing done as its nearly 3" larger than factory, which is 10%... i've no doubt you'd pass the pits as long as theres no scrubbing and the zuk is tidy... but to be honest a hankook dynapro mt in 28x8.5 is gonna be wayyyy better. its skinnier (235 = 9.25") and only marginally less height (28" vs. 28.8").

Ahhh so they are 15in, Bugger... i think 235's might be to big... |

I actually just checked 'full lock' steering and I think i'll have a problem scrubbing the leaf springs near the firewall if I get too much wider. Current BFGs are missing by about 1cm. I'll check out those Hankooks today Alien, if you got any more sub $200 options i'm all ears. |

Hankooks are a bit exxy!! You can get the suggested MT for $110 a pop in the US, somehow, by the time they get over to us they're worth $280!! Same goes for Cooper tires - a near bottom of the barrel tire in the US, here we have to pay a premium for them their ATM sells for $250 a pop (they pay $105). Knowing this - if it's made in the USA i'm gonna steer well clear of it - bad value, bad business. US build quality is no standout either. |

Yep i agree there... When i had my Vit, i got Kumho Road Venture 825 LT AT's put on, i did my research on them, Overlander 4WD tested them, and they scored 7 out of 10 for road, 8 out of 10 for gravel, 8 out of 10 for clay, 10 out of 10 for sand... http://www.kumho.com.au/4x4_light_truck.htm They are the 2nd Tyre down, and here are the sizes available, they do a 225/70 R15 or a 215/75 R15, the prices there are only a guide - http://kumhotyres.businesscatalyst.com/4x4825.htm I got mine for alot less than they say from Tyrepower, its been a few years, but i think they were $195 a tyre, damn good tyre, they went really well on my Vit when i had it... |

Maxxis is made in Korea or Taiwan from memory. You are comparing them to tyres made in Japan. Big quality difference IMO. For that American brand, Yanks don't know how to make good tyres, they just have good advertising and make you pay for that. |
