also look at fitting manual hubs. that thing will be a weapon!!

Hey guys. Looking to buy a jimny to do up as a weekend cruiser but before i do i want to know a few things about them. Lifting them isnt a problem and gearing is simple with a sierra transfer. But do they suffer from any failures frequently? Does anyone make a stronger trailing arm for them that dont twist/bend. And do the lockrights from a sierra fit? Plus any other thing you can add would be very helpfull. Cheers B4T |

they are pretty reliable, just like anything if you look after them. i havent had any probs with mine except for the rear diff and wheel bearings. snake racing make some arms for jimnys but i dont think you need them unless your going to go super hard core. i havent had any probs with mine and i dont think anybody else has changed theirs. they make auto lockers and air lockers for the jimnys afaik the sierra ones dont fit. |

The mountings on the chassis for the control arms are weak but can be fixed with ODA's plates, same with the rear shocks, A few guys have welded pipe on to the control arms to strengthen them too. Otherwise as said, look after em and they look after you. |

im looking at getting a 99 model. Plan would be to lift and cut it to fit 31's. lock both diffs, sierra t/case with series 3 gears and make a winch bar for the front. B4T |

if your wanting to run 31s. best bet would be an 80mm tough dog lift. a sierra body lift will fit but you will have to modfie the front mounts. and the mounts behind the doors. with a 2 inch body lift u will only have to bend the 4wd lever slightly. i run 31s and with the 80mm suspension and 2 inch body we had to cut a bit of the guards away. havent done reduction gears as of yet because we havent been low range crawling much. but we have done and engine conversion which gives it that bit more torque. the 31s still drive fine on road and it the sand. if your going to fit twin lockers you will want to get hardened cvs and axles. the rear diff is the same as a 1.3 sierra and the front diff is supposably the same as a 1.0 lt sierra but dnt quote me on that 1. all the best mate. I ran 30x9s on my Jimny with only 40mm spring lift (ARB) , slite gaurd cut near the sills and an ARB winch bar. Why stop at 31s Jas

there are also jim specific body lifts 
so no need to mod sierra ones. and same goes for transfer gears, trial jimny offer some, but are costly. been driving mine for maybe 6-8months hassle free with minimal maintinance.. biggest drama i had was getting the filler plug off on the diffs. tights as a motherf, butched the square drive so had to ezyout it. besides, good good rig! hopefully ya get your hands on one, sounds like a solid build plan!! |
