Are g16a motors any good for sierra upgrade, or do you need the g16b EFI? g16a have only 6kw more power than standard the 1.3 motor

then go the EFI :)

i've had both... the difference between g13a and g16a in power is the same as the difference between g16a and g16b... its not on paper, but it feels that way.

g16a is just fine as a conversion and is cheaper by far... and you can always change to g16b down the track as the bottom end is the same except for pistons (so if you go g16a put a set of g16b pistons in when you rebuild it).

personally g16b is far superior though, and i'd recommend saving up and doing it outright.

oh and look at the torque figures, as thats where the 1.6 EFI shines.

You can pick up a baleno g16b long motor cheaply.
Whack the 1.3 head and manifolds on and slight changes. A cheap mod for good power (about $300 for adapter plate and a few bits and pieces).

Keep an eye out for a high km vitara 1.6 efi and yoink the head, intake manifold, ecu and loom etc. Reco the head, then fit it later.
Then just get a g16b head gasket, fuel pump, extractors to suit when ready.

Probably the easiest way to convert a DD to 1.6 efi, and it wont cost too much.

Spending $100 more to it this way, and if you decide you cbf doing the efi after adding the 1.6, you just saved yourself some coin and a lot of work.

I thought the figure was about 12.5kW, but there is a big torque difference between the G16 and G13. That is where the difference lies.

On redbook the figures read 49kw for 1.3 and 55kw for 1.6. Does anyone know if this is correct

sounds about right for a carb 1.6

When I was looking into donks, I found 48kw and 100nm for the 1.3l, 60kw and 123nm for the carb 1.6l and 71kw with 133nm for tyhe 1.6l EFI

Seems to be a lot of varying values.

That is correct, because the G16 has a longer stroke, it generates more torque but can not rev as high.

The difference in power and torque between the 16A and 16B (1.6 efi), isn't exactly from the efi, its from the higher compression ratio.

You do not need the insane revs of the 1.3 to do the same, and better, with a 1.6l.

But, a 1.6l does rev very well.

i had my 1.3 over 7 once... didnt sound pretty, especially with the hole in the exhaust. but i rekon it ran heaps better afterwards
