G'day

what could be the reason of engine oil control light turning on while turning hard left? I checked oil level and is ok. I've noticed that rubber cover from engine oil level sensor (next to the passenger side engine mount) is in bad shape and crumbled when I touched it, but that couldn't be the reason, could be? Rear main seal is leaking and I will replace it on the weekend.
I keep my eye on oil level. l thought that the control light would light on only when oil level is low. it never happened before or it has something to do with oil pressure?

unplug it carefully, tape the wire to teh sensor so it isnt contacting and go for a drive, if it doesnt light up chances are you have an oil pickup or similar problem

you have a 1.6 yeah? got a modified oil pickup? it could be cracked and sucking air

by oil pick up you mean oil pump or just the oil pick up tube with the sieve? while i have more problems now (link below) should I pull out oil pump and pull it apart? and if I do that what should I check, inspect inside the pump (inner and outer gears clearance?) and when assembling should pack the gears cavity with petroleum jelly or something like that?

The light is a low pressure indicator, the dipstick is the oil level indicator.

When the oil level is low, if the oil sloshes, in a turn, or on hard breaking, the pickup is uncovered, and the oil pressure drops momentarily and the light comes on.

The light comes on to indicate the low oil pressure which is the result of the low oil level.

My old shitter swift would have the light come on and stay on. I would drive it for days and then add a 4 or 5 litre pack of oil that would last it for another 3-4 months.

And such a poorly executed system for a simple but critical warning light. With oil pressure the switch is normally open, hence the light turns off. If the wire happens to come off while your driving the light will stay off and if you do also run outta oil/have oil pressure issues in the same drive you will not notice until she looses power and seizes.
