hi guys, i just got myself new tyres fitted to my stock 1993 sierra.... and on the drive home started hearing a popping sound on hard cornering, I've looked and its not the tyres scrubbing but i realised my hubs were engaged i disengaged them and the noise stopped?? what is the problem... could i need cv's done or is it simply low oil in the diff?? what are you're opinions ?? and roughly how much would i be up for cost wise??? |

The cv's shouldn't make a noise unless under load, could of been the front shaft spinning .. |

Diff's can make some strange noise's when "free spinning" as in not being driven. Where both hub's fully engaged?? if one was only 1/2 engaged it would make lovely noises... take it to a grassy/dirt patch, slot 4wheel & lock the front, low speed turning on & off acc should load the cv's enough to let you know if that are buggered, thay put out a cackler/clatter noise when buggered.. What part of the shire you from?? |

i had a problem which sounds similar, i was missing a spring in my hub and hence even though it was on 'free' it was constantly locked and popping on full lock. are your tyers bigger? perhpas there fouling somewhere |

it had nothing to do with the hubs, i checked the clearance with the spring on the drivers side through a full lock to full lock turn, but only checked passenger side with the wheels straight ahead, turns out the front bumper was about 5mm closer to the tyre on the pass. side and on a sharp turn scrubbed the edge, so loosened nuts up and jiggled her forward!! im a dumbass thanks for the suggestions.... made me think a bit more |
