first of all i would like to say a quick hello to all as this is my first post. now to the point... i have a 94 vitara jlx 1.6 EFI that i have owned for about a year, it a great car but i want it to do more. i have heard of people putting a commodore v6 in but i think tha may be excessive, however i read a thread saying theres not much point putting a vitara v6 in. so what would be my easiest engine option to install and actually be worth my time and labour. im trying to keep this a cost effective project as i have a hilux set for my next goal. thank you, Jed. |

Vitara V6 is weak. My Sierra with 1.3L 4K Corolla Engine has as much pickup as a V6 Vitara engine.. Power to weight it isn't worth it. Go the Commy motor |

thanks for the link joe i found alot of information, possibly too much info. This is my first engine swap so i would like the swap to be as smooth as it can, so i should have asked, what engine can i basicly dump directly in for added power without having to worry about putting dents in my vites when i end up thowing a hammer during stressful bits. any help would be greatly appreciated so if anyone has advice please send it this way thank you, Jed. |

turboing your motor will probably give you better gain for around the same price. you won't have problems with wiring and i think the extra weight of the turbo is a little less than a boat anchor, sorry commodore V6, no sorry boat anchor. |

There is no simple dump in engine swap you can do with no stressful bits... The only motors that will "dump in" are suzuki G-series motors, and the 1.6 EFI is as good as it gets... |

Yeah the G16b set ups are arguably some of the most capable zooks on the planet. I personally have a turbo GTi and unless you've got turbo experience I would NEVER suggest boost. Its just not worth it on a car that ventures away from a race track and trailer, especially if you dont know what you're doing. I'd say you're probably looking for a band aid solution to an unrelated problem. Maybe look at the rest of the drive-train set up? Tyres, gears, lockers? Also when you say you want it to do more, what exactly is more? More power doesnt always = more capability. My sierra can dust V6 commodores but was no real improvement off road until I did my T/Case gears. |

You're all morons.. No apologies for any offense taken. Power to Weight.. It's a simple ratio, that says a car that weighs less requires less power to provide the same acceleration My Zook is ~800kg, a Lwb V6 Vitara is like 1300kg, and a Commy is like 1600kg. So yes, your V6 lwb Vitara may be as fast as a Commodore.. But, if you both had the same power output (Same engine) what would happen? You are lighter.. Hence you're now faster. Is this sinking in? Or are you still having trouble? So when i say a V6 lwb Vitara has at average the same pickup as my 1.3L 4K Sierra.. You can say, "Hey, that Vitara weighs ALOT more than his Zook does, and it has taller gearing for road use.. So he MIGHT just be right" And if you didn't say that, and insist to keep on jumping on the insult bandwagon.. Then i wont express my sympathy when you contract some form of cancer. I'm a Jap supporter for life, but i can't deny the fact that an Ecotec Commodore engine is VERY simple and reliable for the considerable power it outputs with such outdated technology. If you look after it, it ain't gonna die. Holden can't build a good car, but their Ecotec engines aren't half bad. |

You are a fucking idiot, your piece of shit mutilated crap box is far from 800kg and you piece of shit forklift engine is in no way capable of producing anywhere near enough power to maintain a comparable power to weight ratio to a v6 vit you make here a poorer place to be, fuck off somewhere else you arent welcome |

If you stick a fucking great commy motor in a Vitara, then with all the extra weight in the front it will drive like a dog. The handling will be shite. It'll be all over the road. Understeer everywhere... The Vitara's driveline, suspension and chassis was not designed to get 200hp to the ground either, so don't think that you can just chuck a V6 in and she'll be right. She won't. |

Oh, by the way. a 48kw 4K motor in a 950kg zook is 50.5kw/tonne. A 100kw V6 in a 1300kg Vitara is 76.9kw/tonne. Get your facts straight before you start mouthing off... |

Don't do the commonwhore swap... I friend of mine put one into a F20 Daihatsu. Was bloody quick just hope you don't hit a bump, want to turn or want to stop. If you're building a drag vit, well why not. |
