Hi All, I bought an 89 Vitara couple of weeks ago and it has a weird problem with the horn. It won't work most of the time, and will occasionally work when the ignition is switched off? As soon as I turn the key to acc or start the car it stops working and then won't work again when I switch it off. I replaced the horn, checked all the fuses and checked the cotacts on the steering wheel. They're clean and have 12v until pressed and then they go to 0v. There's also 12v at contacts on the horn. My Haynes manual seems to have a horn relay in the wriring diagram, but I have no idea where it's located. The only relay I've been able to find is under the washer fluid bottle. Any ideas? I need to pass an RWC to change the rego over tomorrow. |

just a few suggestions when i had this problem i noticed the wiring was worn through were it goes over the steering nuckle joint on the shaft by the servo. just replaced the wire and horn worked again. also look into this had it happen on our lwb vit the earth strap on the flexible steering coupling, although to look at it was fine the cable had corroded and broken inside the connector essentially the same thing though |

Thanks guys. I've found the wires on the shaft and they're pretty filthy. I'll clean those up first and see if that helps. |
