Post subject:  Low Oil Pressure on G16B/G13B hybrid

Hey guys

I bought a motor off VWDave on here and put it in my car, it is a G16/13B hybrid with the EFI bottom end and the 8V carby head. I couldnt use dave's sump because I am not spring over and the front sump wouldnt clear. I now am having an issue where my oil pressure light is flickering on low revs (850rpm) and stays on when cold starting in the morning

We had to cut and shut my G13B oil pickup to fit the G16B bottom end and my G13B sump. I am pretty confident the welds on the pickup are good (I cant know for sure it isnt leaking as we didnt test it) but the problem I think I have is that the G13B oil pickup where it bolts to the bottom end is not correct and it is leaking.

What oil pickup end do you need to use?

Does the G13B pickup work?

Is there a sump and pickup I can buy off the shelf that I can bolt in?

Any help would be much appreciated

It could just be the o-ring on the pick-up.

hmmm...id really like to avoid doing this twice...you have to remove the gearbox to get the sump off and whilst its not hard it is a time consuming pain in the ass

If it's a g16 ust that pick up into the block, then graft the 13 on to it to suit the sump, can't go to wrong then..

What oil are you useing??

if you're oil light is flickering i don't think sorting out the sump is you're issue. the issue will be you're crank is now rooted and will only be a matter of time, if you keep driving it, that it will throw a leg out of bed.

I have a petro worx adapter plate, it goes all the way round including the inspection plate, going to lop the bottem part for the inspection plate off cause the rear sump bolt's can't be undone with g/box bolted up..

Start by putting an oil pressure gauge - you don't know what the oil pressure is without one, and I've seen those oil pressure switches fail and do that.

It is also possible that an air leak on the pump intake can cause this problem - the pump ends up pumping an oil/air foam to the engine, which because of the air content is very compressible - remove the oil pressure switch and crank the engine - are you getting oil or foam - if it's foam, there's a leak on the intake side.
