hay guys, well i was reversing down my mates driveway with the clutch in and about half waydown a pulled the clutch out going slow, with no jerk or anyhting, then about 1 sec later i hear this massive clunk and my rear wheels locked up, and car stalled, i tryed starting it again and it just clicked. so i rolled it down the bottom of the driveway and on to the side of the road, popped the hood, couldnt see anything, luckily my mates dad is a mechanic, he had a look and said its my engine, it could have been from my timing belt slipping off or it had jumped a couple of teeth or something, but it has caused a major mechanical failure.. he also seems to think its my bottom end of the engine.. the car has done 225,000ks and its the 1.6 fuel injected engine, timing belt was only done about 7,000 ago.. what are your guys thoughts |

i never had a problem with my 1.6 vitara engine (the fuel injected model) and it was around the same age and mileage....but if it was your timing belt coming off it is possible u have put a valve into the top of a piston or something similar |

therefor the timing belt only being 7000 ks old it would be the mechanics fault yeah? |

no you popping the clutch is the fault, sure you were in reverse? you may be lucky, but I am pretty sure they are interference engines get the belt back on right and cross your fingers |

i let the clutch out really slowly with minimal jerk, or labor to the car. the engine turns 2 revs one way then 2 revs back and either way it has a major lockup |

pull the front cover off and have a look at the belt, you never know it might just be simple to fix |

maybe it was last touched by a kmart Mechanic seen a sierra do it going down a hill, seen a camry do at idle and not moving cam belt is pretty far from a busted rod, but dont worry youll get to know allll about them with your jumped up corolla motor |

I gather you were in 1st gear whilst reversing down the drive way.. Well yeah cross your fingers you haven't bent a valve or worse smacked one through he piston.. As Royce said pull the timing cover off the front of the engine and see it all the timing marks line up. If they don't you'll need to remove the timing belt and reset cylinder 1 to TDC, then replace timing belt to alignment marks, turn it over by hand several times and see if all the marks still align.. Put it back together and give it a crank.. Oh yes and do all this while crossing all you toes & fingers.. |

Bwahahaa I got out of the game cause I was sick of working with Kmart mechanics that think they knew it all but couldnt even figure out a dodgy temp sensor fixing EFI by slowly replacing everything 1 at a time isnt fixing it |
