G'day

i finally finish replacing seals (cam, crank & rear main), put everything together, started her up and she was alive again. not for long. i installed new fuel tank guard from Fatzook and drove to shop. when i wanted to start her in the evening, she started, straggled for few seconds and died. I thought it was carby playing up, try to push start to no avail.
next day i add 5l petrol from jerry can, just in case (fuel gauge shows null for full and empty tank) and tried to start her, no luck. start de bastard didn't help, so i poured some juice to the carby, she started, run for several second and died.

I checked:
-fuel filter - not blocked
-disconnected main cable from coil, undid the fuel hose at the carby end and let my brother crank it to see if fuel pump pumps, few squirts and nothing.
-disconnected inlet hose to pump, petrol was there, so can't be blocked, hose between fuel pump and carby not blocked.
-I didn't check fuel pump return hose - should I?? i guess no need for that

so my diagnose is fuel pump is dead.

1. DO you confirm that or something else could be wrong like blocked pump (if that's possible)?

2. here's the picture of fuel pump. i have G16a in my sierra, but no idea if that's 1.3 or 1.6 head and if fuel pumps are different for 1.3 and G16a engine?
can anyone confirm which fuel pump is it - from G16a or G13a i don't want to buy wrong one

3. here are pictures of my carby. choke plate is open when engine is cold and the spring (indicated by red arrow) which close it is very week,
choke doesn't work since a while. she used to cold start no problems, just no choke, but had problems with hot start. was running too rich and consumption was too big. is it because that spring being too week and that choke plate being open all the time?
4.where i can get this spring from (new one ideally)??

5. she idles ok, but i need to regulate idle speed once for a while. sometimes when hot and worked harder idle was higher. before problems with fuel pump i sprayed start u bastard on each vacum hose i could find and revs didn't change so i assumed there is no vacuum leak
i cannot find manual for vitara carby hence i can't find mixture screw. the one i indicated by red arrow doesn't do anything. i guess is supposed to regulate the movement of the rod going to actuator (don't know if that's idle or secondary one), but it doesn't matter if i screw it in or unscrew, it changes nothing. anyone can help me with this?
few more shots of the carby.

i got some hose today and check the pump tomorrow and let you know. doing that way i will separate fuel pump from any possibly blocked line between the fuel tank and pump

1. as suzukilwb said, that's a good test to see if the pump still work's & at the same time will tell, if it does work that you have a blocked line..
2. Vit pump & carb..
3. take the 2 hoses off & clean out build up of shit in the carb, the 2 hoses are almost directly under you red arrow..
4. Unless it's broken, it will be fine..
5. that's not the mixture screw, I "think" that's the chock adj screw, could be wrong, it sound's like it sucking air, I'b be inclined to put a kit through it.

:P Efi rock's..

thx. what do you mean by put a kit through it??

i know efi is good, no carby, more power, smooth, better on fuel economy.

i can't see the point for swapping my G16a for G16b. it costs a fair bit, and a quite a bit of work needs to be done, and i would have to get it engineered again. current engine was rebuilt at one stage of it's live (no idea when though) and is in good condition in my opinion, just few bits and pieces need to be tuned, like carby.

Kit as in carby kit, yes, new gasket's & needle & seat, you clean all the yr's of shit out of it..
by the look of the pic looking down on the top of the carb, there is a screw loose in the throat, could just be the pic tho..
