Post subject:  Lada Niva brakes.
I don't know how much work this would involve, but would it be worth trying to use lada niva brakes + master cyl on the sierra?

Preferably calipers + discs, whole hub if necessary.

Been thinking about it for a while, thought it'd be pretty handy on steeper decents?

Yes, a two stage brake master cylinder and 3 piston calipers.

light depression of the brake operates only the first state which operates only the centre piston on the caliper.

Their hubs are also the same stud pattern if I remember correctly?

Might go down to U-pull it next week and get some calipers + master cylinder.

yep, just have to cut around the caliper because the vit caliper is bigger, and you will need to bleed it off the disk as the nipple is in the wrong position...

2 stage, do you mean stand on the brake's & stop when you hit something?

Vit is bolt on & frigging awesome in the peddle feel & stopping power, get even better if you do a rear disc to.. :P

I've never cut a caliper apart, and I definately can't even pretend I can understand the engineering that goes on with them, but is it at all possible to redrill and tap a new bleed point in onto the caliper?

Or is the position of the bleed point set in the fact that it's at the furtherest point of the system?

i don't know about the new point but the original bleed points are set in the highest point of the caliper so the air gets pushed up and out

You could strip the caliper's down, re drill then re kit them, or just flip em up..
How often do you bleed your brake's??

Good in the sense that you can gradually brake. Useful for steep decent.

Not in the same way. From my ( alas, limited) 4x4 experience, down steep decent it's hard to do "gradual braking."

Every time I try it I seeimgly lock up and start sliding (clay/mud) or come to a sudden stop (sand)

Don't know what the 1 is for? :S

6.5 t case gears? 4.1 diff ratios?

I just wanted something cheap and quick I can whip up. When my Gbox gives way, i'll get the rear locker and 6.5's.

yeah man im just messing, i do however tink that kiss is prolly a good plan of attack with brakes as is tnt (tried n tested) especially on a road car.

Yeah I'm leaning towards that.

I'll suss getting Vit calipers...might even do a disc rear.

My car is a daily, but I can easily go without for as long as I need to :)

I did the LWB Vit calipers n rotor on my maruti, no trimming required, and bled the system with the calipers in position.

It is a very very simple job, bleeding takes longer than the RnR
