My zook is running like an absolute dog... keeps flooding and wont run properly. (1.6 efi)

Hasnt really run right since I installed the engine, and Ive run into other problems which I'm currently fixing up.

Fuel tank kept gettin blocked up (corrosion inside kept floatin around blockin the pickup etc... and causing the pump to cavitate)

While removin the tank to make way for a new one in which I'm going to make a copy of the existing LRA tank.

I noticed this wire hanging off the throttle positon sensor.

what is it please.. I havent been able to find where it plugs into and im wondering if its related to the reason why its running like a pig... runs very very rich etc.

Hurmmmmm flooding. What condition is the tank return line in? Not kinked at all? Good place to start would be to check the fuel pressure at the rail and get the injectors cleaned. Does it run rich all the time?? Cold/hot? Oxygen sensor connected up?

Coolant temperature sensor?

As the coolant temp goes down, the sensor resistance increases, so a disconnected or open sensor will indicate a very cold engine and cause it to run rich

It kind of looks like the plug for the brake master cylinder warning light.

Okay,

The return line kept gettin blocked. So I gave up on that and have now removed the tank. Going to make a new tank for it hopefully over the weekend. sucks but has to be done that way I know the lines are done properly.

I hooked up a jerry can to my fuel lines after the tank was removed and tried starting her.. No go... kept flooding and barely starting.

What would make it hard to start? Ive disconnected the battery now in hope that the ECU will reset, and fix up the fuel issue and give it another go.

My boss seems to think that the cam timing might be out a tooth - would it cause it to run okay , but not properly down low...

example... from idle... give it a rev - it'll die out very quickly and cut out.

Rev it slowly to 1500 to 2000 rpm, then boot it.. it'll rev all the way up to redline no worries....

weird... and hopfully i can get this fixed!!!!

if the return line got blocked then gunk may have jammed the pressure regulator too

could be cam timing too

Thats what i was thinking...

Playing with the vacuum hoses on the fuel regulator got it running for a bit then rough idle all over again.

New questions.

There are two solenoids - a blue and a brown one. What are they for.. I see the fuel regulator is hooked up to the left solenoid - forgot what colour - dark outside now.

the coolant temp sender - there are two on the block.. one facing the front is which my temp gauge is hooked up to (sierra guage). and there is a bare one on the side - is that where the ECU is 'supposed' to get its reading from? - I had an auto electrician wire it all up and its possible he may have missed that one.

I also cut up my fuel tank.. and found the pickup was like 2mm from the corroded floor. - cut the bottom of the tank off ... turned the pickup into a return.. and put a new pickup line at the back of the tank. and welded it all shut.

Just got to refit it and fill it up with fuel and try to diagnose why its runing like shit. Got a timing light etc. so will see how it pans out over the weekend.

Also.. I dont even have a diganostic light etc on this one... the auto electrican who did this just took my loom away and cut it all up and made it into a nice small loom and put it on for me... and we ran out of time to get it running properly as he had to go so Ive been trying to get it all sorted my end (auto sparky is in sunshine coast and I'm down ipswich way)

Yer it need's a CTS, soun'd like he missed it, but I would be surprised if he did, it's a very needed sensor

Wait a minute this is an EFI conversion - right?
What color are the wires on the connector ?

There are usually a couple of electrical connectors to the carb - anti dieseling solenoid and auto choke - is it possible that is left over from the old harness and not required with the EFI?

No it's part of the vit harness, just pop's it's head out near the Tps & sit there looking round, has no power at any stage of Ing on, eng running, doesn't appear to switch earth either..

Just sit's there.. :?

FYI its been fixed.

After a lot of head scratching and mucking with the timing light, I pulled the cover a tiny bit off to check the timing mark and I saw it line up exactly with the crank timing mark which had me mystified why the zook was still running like shit.

Pulled the cover off more to reveal that the letter E sat next to the timing mark which revealed that the previous engine owner who said that he had the head done etc etc... had done the belts up the wrong way and timed the engine to the exhaust mark - lol.

Re did the timing and lined all marks up, and fired her up. soooo smoooth. and took her for a drive.. now can hold 3rd gear on hills with 34s at 2500 rpm - big improvement from holding 3rd gear at 5500 rpm and any lower would just die out.

:D :D.. bring on wheeling :D :D
