hey all just a quick one as my car wont go
the other week i pulled the dizzy off the back of my g16b to change the oring as it was leaking, old one was cracked up etc.slid housing off,dug out oring and went to get a new one.

Got the closest imperial one i could get to try get it goin again as they didnt have the right one,put it back on car went fine been driving it for a couple of weeks.

had a slight weep again so yesterday arv i pulled it off, tried another one i got but it didnt fit so i slid the other one back in,put a bit of blue on the face aswell to help and cant remember if i started it or not before we left for tea but today it wont go.

i still have some spark, had a lead off with plug etc but it wont run.im sure i didnt move anything so is it just that the gear in the dizzy housings moved or something?I dont have timing lights or any specs etc   thanks

Most engines you set dizzy to top dead on No1 but G16B you set to top dead on No4.
Rotor pointing to No1 lead but No4 piston at top.
Confused fuck out of me for a while... :? 8O :D

kinda jas, i know what your saying as i cocked up a timing belt on one. but what your thinking is only relevant when fitting a belt as number 1 and 4 are at top together. so its just a matter of finding which cylinder is on compression stroke and point the rotor to that post in the dizzy cap. the crank marks will line up weather its on 1 or 4.

but... when fitting a timing belt with the marks on the crank and cam pulleys in right direction, it will be on tdc compression number 4.. so rotor faces number 4...

not disagreeing, just clarifying :P

On a 4 cylinder engine, No 1 Piston and No 4 will both have exactly the same piston position, while 2 and 3 are the same. On the Cam, No 1 and 4 are 180deg apart for compression stroke. Firing order is 1-3-4-2

This means I put my dizzy in wrong.
Glad I found out now
I put cam from my Vit motor in it,
and a new timing belt.
I lined up crank pulley with mark above it,
and the cam pulley at it mark on top.
Which is exactly how it was set before removng belts and cam.
Put it back together without moving it.
So pretty sure cam timing is right :?
But I pointed rotor at no 1
Glad I looked thru AZ, will repoint it before starting,
thought I knew what was what
