i was always pretty sure that g16bs are non interference engines? for this reason i have been putting of the cam belt. but if somebody proves they are not then id better get around to doing it. |

All factory G series motors are free spinners AFAIK. I've seen a G 16B break a timing belt and I can assure you it was a free spinner because it took us about 6 hours to figure out why it wouldn't run.... Steve. |

hmmm ok, this is good to know. i have a haynes manual, i have had a look but cant find anything info on it being a interference engine or not. any ideas on where i can? i was always told that it was just the G13 engines that were non-interference engine. Mitch |

The only G engine which is an interference engine is the G13B. |

can anyone explain why Suzuki made the g13b twin cam head interference design. i find it odd that the rest of the series is free running but they decided to do it this way with the 13b. i dont see that the fact it is twin cam should dictate this design change or am i missing something? |

more valves, higher compression, valves get closer to teh piston tops |

| Post subject: | Re: g 16bs free running |
this explains it well:
No Valve/Piston Interference
Valve/Piston Interference and this seems pretty good at telling you if its interference or not: http://www.gates.com/part_locator/index ... on_id=3598 g13a - non-interference g16a - non-interference g16b - INTERFERENCE theres no real data on the jimny, but if that trend flows through would mean if its a 16 valve engine, its interference - which would makes sense given the limited space in there =) |

oh k higher compression engine that would explain it, cool thanks for the explanation. yeah i know what is meant by interference and non interference. dont know anything about the g13b so i didnt realize it was higher compression. |
