Post subject:  How to Measure a Leaf Spring?
I went and measured them, mostly for shits and giggles.. But partially because in the next week or two i'll be buying new springs!

Curious what's the correct way, you say Eye to Eye.. But is that following the curve of the spring? Or just straight, ignoring the bow of the spring?

If so.. I measured straight
And got 920mm for Front, and 1010mm for Rear
The standard is 950 and 1050 yes?

I worked out that these lengths would be optimal for shackle angle on my Zook
Front, 1000
Rear, 1080

I'm lost as to the variance in the numbers.. Any clues?
Was looking to do 2" Zook Rears, 2" Lux Fronts
But with these numbers, i'm not sure..

And yes i did search, and even resorted to Outerlimits.. No luck

You can't really measure a spring straight from eye to eye as it will change as the spring is loaded. The only consistent measurement is along the curve of the spring...

They're fully loaded, the car is sitting on 'em
Can you accurately pick a spring without checking how much it will flatten with the weight on the car on it?

How bout i just buy the 2" Zook rears and 2" lux fronts and get the 9" and welder out when the dust settles?

Variances in spring lengths are due to different brands having their own specifications. I.E load carrying ability, ride height, handling etc. You should also take into consideration the age of the springs, settling time from installation, pack modification (pulling leaves / adding them)......

normally most manufacturers give you a direct eye to eye length then a measurement from that imaginary straight line down to the locating pin hole.

So you get a length measurement and also a camber measurement. From my research EFS 65mm Rear springs are the longest commercially available spring built specifically for a sierra. I run these in the front of my rig due to the heavier motor and gearbox combo I get around 50mm lift out of them. They are a constant 125kg load spring at 50mm lift and "medium duty" 65mm lift spring.

They work really well, flex nicely, ride nicely, I can't fault them. i would probably pull the load leaf out if I had a standard 1.3, maybe even two or three springs.

This is a pic of them flexed up, 60mm chassis extension and 2" longer shackles make them work well. As you can see it drops the 34" tyre out of the wheel well.

X2 And as you buy your springs unloaded the best way to measure them is out of the car.

As for bumpstops mine had a 3 inch spacer on them.
