I never turned on the lights while the engine was running but there is an "idle up" solenoid on the front of the carby that is supposed to raise the revs when lights are turned on to compensate for the extra load on the alternator.. It is easily adjusted. |

Bit of a dig, but turns out my one of these (idle up solenoid) works also, however it's only set to like 1000rpm or so. Will have to keep it in mind for when I eventually fit an air compressor, assuming it needs to be switched on manually (i.e. lights) unless it works on the alternator voltage dropping or something? |

AFAIK it works on the lights and the heater fan switches... Or the rear demister on a hardtop I think... |

The fact the idle up works! no one else in Australia's actually works! mine works perfectly fine and always has, it goes from 1000 rpm to 1500 rpm with the lights on and then you tap the brake for like 5 seconds it goes to 1800 rpm |

Or the rear demister on a hardtop I think... The idle up is controlled by a vacuum switch, which in turn is controlled by an electrical signal from the different electrical accessories, via a diode block - you can either connect additional inputs to any unused terminals on the diode block or add your own inputs by wiring in a suitable diode (1N4001 or similar). |
