Post subject:  PERTH: Custom Rims!

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but there is a guy in Perth who makes custom steel rims... Seeing as my order for procomp series 52s missed the boat, I had some new rims custom made to the same measurements (15x7 5x5.5 -38).

The guy who did it is Rob at Summerfield Engineering in Baldivis: (08) 9459 1078 - the weld this guy did, by hand i might add, is one continuous line of awesome - no pics of the raw rim im afraid, but it looks like a bead of silicone its that neat. Cost a little extra as the rim centre was a flip job, so harder to do - total cost was $148/rim

I also had them sandblasted to remove minor surface rust, then primed and powdercoated by Ken at Landsdale Powdercoaters: (08) 9302 1460 for only $50 a rim! The finish is unbelievable, and a very thick coating!

Rob at Summerfield Engineering in Baldivis: (08) 9459 1078

They have a few names, most commonly "5 Slot" or "Chev Rally" rims. Commonly found on the Camaro etc as well as older f100s.

The actual RIM (steel band) is ROH too.

So that is $148 per rim or $148 just for the work done to it and the cost of the rim is extra. I will be looking into some next year 8)

Sorry for being old enough to remember when every man and his HQ wanted real rally wheels, thought you might of chopped up something good to make them messy rims

So $198 all up, per rim, plus the cost of the rim as well?

Yeah I've never been a fan of those wheel centres either. And for $200/ rim, surely it would have been worth getting the procomps :?

A mate had some rims cut and flipped and played with for our trailer rig not entirly sure of the details but was a good job and not to spenno. either. we already had the rims tho.

lucky you didn get procomps,
we have had heaps into work, bending easily and just not a very well made rim, hard to balance and what not.
also procomp is getting very messy with there products lately, takin 6 months for a set of tires and then once they get here there the wrong 1s.

Post subject:  Re: PERTH: Custom Rims!

i've still got procomps on order... they will be fine for my winter tyres.

red89 - as others have said, $148ea all inclusive per rim to be made, then $50ea for sand/prime/paint for a $198 total per rim - which i think is great for a complete custom job.

hahaha you'll never believe what happened this morning... mounted the tyres to the rims, balanced it all up, took off a back wheel and... CLUNK! wheel centre is too small to fit over the hub!!! DOH!

Its ok though - Rob is going to bore them out monday. He was pretty embarrased =) haha

Yer thats about what I would expect to pay for a fully custom rim, I'll already have the rim just need the backspace redone.

Maybe you got a bad batch?? We sell heaps of procomp tyres and rims. In the past 3 months we've returned 1 set of tyres that were supposedly part of a bad batch.

The procomp alloys look awesome!

i still cant work out alloys... theres next to no weight saving and theyre easier to chip/crack. unless its purely for looks?
