hey, i have a sierra 89 model with everything stock but id like to know all the details of puting in a oldish vitara motor in it and it would be great if you sent links to guides ect. thanks

here is a step by step guide.
-get said engine and any wiring required
-take old engine out
-purchase one of many of the available adapter kits from benT or other
-fit engine to sierra
start engine and wheel it.

there are however very good detailed writeups on the subject hit search and look for engine conversion. i think one of the better ones was one want33 put together

also good tech is a good spot to look. there is a good one about a reacent baleno engine conversion in there may be another option for ya. I used a coil pack baleno engine and it was really easy if ya have some patience and a bit of knowhow (ie the metle bit of the hammer is for hitting stuff)

When you say oldish vitara motor, is that cos you have a motor lined up already? Define oldish... A carby motor and an EFI motor are two completely different kettles of fish...

Vit motors don't come much older than your Sierra, but the 8 valve head version fitted to '88 to '92 models (G16A) will be the simplest conversion you'll ever do. All you need is a BenT adapter kit (and tools, engine crane and maybe half a day).

Add to the list - a vitara starter motor and alternator. and you might need to modify the bit where the air hose plenum thing, joins into the top of the carby. The 1.6 carby motor is slightly taller and has other small differences and on mine I couldnt just plug the existing air hose setup onto the new engine so had to make up a taller cylinder/tube to sit ontop of the carby for clearance. You might want to think about a new clutch as well - heavy duty exceedy perhaps, although aparently you can get away with the existing if its in good nic.
